I am researching the various indy 500 Pace Cars and am now on 1932. The car was a Lincoln KB roadster by Murphy, with a disappearing top (no boot needed when down) There were five of these produced. The actual Pace Car was driven by Edsel Ford for the race, and it was his actual car with his plates on it. Does anyone know anything about this car after Edsel owned it? Of the five cars built it appears three of them were Laurel Green, one was red, and the Pace Car was a two tone Light and Dark Pearl Essence. It appears the Pace Car did not have the three steps used to access the rumble seat. There is a rumor the car was last seen in California with a supercharger on the V12 engine, another rumor states it was scrapped, and still another stets it is under restoration. Attached are the only pictures I have of the car. Two were colorized and show the two tone grey paint. The green car is one that still exists today. Any help or information is greatly appreciated. Thanks
I know a little, my friend John Carambia knows a lot about this particular car. The green one that John Mozart owns is the only surviving one of the five. There may be a rebodied one being put together on an original '32 KB chassis, John would know. Message me and I can put you in touch with John.
My friend had a 32 KB Phaeton about 1/2 done when he passed a few years ago, not sure what happened to the car. Very sexy motor in those things !
Here is the car in 1950 with the supercharger, set up for the Bonneville Salt Flats. I can find no references it ever raced there though
For years when we went to the NSRA run in Pueblo the motel was next to a large liquor store and the owner always had his 32 Lincoln Victoria which was 2 tone grey parked beside the store. It was beautiful.. It was in the same style as a 32 Ford Victoria, just on steroids. Very cool. Also I've bought a couple of the 32 Lincoln dash inserts at the LARS.
Albert Drake had a column in Rod Action magazine in the late 1980's about a frame and engine purchased by someone who had pictures of it in a hot rodded state. That included the supercharged picture above. The purchaser was looking for any history he could find including what happened to the body. Drake commented that it was odd such a distinctive rodded car had seemingly no publicity in the day.
The car was restored and recently on YouTube under ccca in Ohio tour. It has a hidden top compartment and rumble seat. I believe one of the 5 had only a trunk.
