1932 Ford Highboy Old School The 1932 Ford Hotrod was built in Tucson, AZ, in the 1991 timeframe by Bill Van ****. Bill was a major general in the Air Force stationed in Tucson, who shared a love for fast jets and fast cars. This hotrod was Bill’s second Ford Highboy build and was inspired by the Joe Nitti roadster, a significant hot rod of Oakland and Cow Palace events. This roadster was sold to a GM parts manager in Phoenix, AZ, and now resides with the car’s third owner in Scottsdale, AZ. The current owner has owned the car for more then 10 years, and needs garage space for incoming cars so is thinning his collection to make room. The car is ***led as a 1932 Ford, and is in current owner’s name with clear Arizona ***le. This 1950’s style traditional ’32 Highboy checks all the right boxes. The rod was ***embled between 1981 and 1993, with all receipts from original build, a one-inch tall stack, accompanying the sale. Since acquiring the rod, the current owner has fine-tuned and worked out all drivability issues, with receipts available for all of this work as well. Upon completion of the build, this hotrod was selected as a cover car for the January 1995 issue of American Rodder, and then was selected in the January 1996 issue of the same magazine as one of the top rods of 1995 and selected as the 1932 Ford Roadster of the year. Issues of both magazines accompany the car’s complete ac***ulation of do***entation. The American Rodder article is found page by page in the photo section and should be read by all interested parties. Photos of the underside of this 1932 Ford show the hand made exhaust system and lake pipes, which were cut in 8” to 12” sections, welded together and then chromed. No mandrel tube bending here, but quality old-time handmade workmanship. Being a cl***ic 50’s hotrod build, this ride has a period 1942 Mercury flathead engine with all the proper speed equipment, including Stomberg 97 carbs with Edmunds cast air cleaners, Hildebrandt oil filter unit, Navarro intake manifold and cylinder heads, Felton exhaust headers, which complement the Buick aluminum drum brake covers, 4” drop Magnum front axle, 1946 Ford hubcaps, 1940 Deluxe Ford steering wheel, Halibrand quick change rear end with an early and rare “Torrance City, CA” rear gear cover plate. The interior has a maroon oxblood Naugahyde pleat and roll Glide seat with adjustable slide and tilt, Stewart Warner period gages, Hanneline machine tuned gage surround, SCTA period dash badge, Russetta Timing ***ociation tag affixed to the firewall, and rear bumper SCTA plaque. This hotrod is accompanied with all receipts from original build, including recent drivability messaging and upgrading totaling $10K in receipts. Car also comes with original Offenhauser heads, mat black gauge surround, Navarro generator brace, and Carson hardtop, of which the top needs to be painted, fitted and finished. Car is a great driver with no known needs, which is ready for only for a new owner. Current owner is only selling car to make room for a new project.
