I know there at least two other ones here and I need a little information/help. I know parts for these are the real Hens Teeth. I am finally getting what I believe is a Correct Windshield frame for my Coupe. What I don't have or know is how it hinges or how they/it mounts. Any photos of that would really help. Also I don't have anything for lock bars or hardware. Again some photos of what you have in place would get me going. Even better might be a paper tracing of one that I could turn into a usable pattern. With a good pattern a laser or water jet would then be my next move. Who can help me out a little bit?
Check out the Studebaker Drivers Club forum, the AACA forum under Studebaker, Erskine, and Rockne, or contact the Rockne Registry in the Antique Studebaker Club website.
I did that some 30 years ago. Those stuffed shirts were all about Total Restoration. I was the Red Headed step child and not wanted at all. It was made very clear how Wrong I am so re visiting that isn't going to happen, nor am I going to register my Rockne with them. A rough Hot Rod is way more Fun than any Stock anything.
@Pist-n-Broke I think you will find the SDC a little more receptive now, I belong and my Stude is not stock and there are quite a few others on the site that have modified Studes. Is there still some negative attitude on the part of the restoration side, yeah, there is, but it isn't that much of a deal as far as I am concerned. Besides, you don't need to share that you have a modified Rockne Good luck on finding what you need!!
I have been in contact with Bruce. We got off to a grate start. Grate guy and has come to my rescue both with photos and a few pieces. Right now it looks like good progress. [QUOTE="vtx1800,@Pist-n-Broke I think you will find the SDC a little more receptive now, I belong and my Stude is not stock and there are quite a few others on the site that have modified Studes. [/QUOTE] At this point in life I'm totally happy here on the H.A.M.B. I'm to Old to start braking in a new crowd to my way of thinking. I've never been Brand Loyal and it works well right here. My hands have been on a few Studebaker L.S.R. cars as well as Street/Drag ones. Here it don't need any explaining. At 70+ K.I.S.S. works well. The real plus is the H.A.M.B. came to my rescue in less than 24 hours. How can things be any better some where else?
Doesn't it piss you off when people like from the Rockne or Studebaker Club refuse to help you just because you are a hot rodder? Can you provide a picture of your windshield area. Most cars from that era are basically the same so you might be able to find a talented metal worker and piece a windshield together from say a Model A or another car from the era. There are several reproduction windshield frames available for the Model A in both steel and aluminum.
P and B. I can't help but just had to post this. I never knew of a Rockne until some years back when I spotted a black coupe in a magazine, not sure this is the one but it is a stunner. https://carinmylife.com/car-reviews/1932-rockne-model-65-balances-style-and-performance/
That picture that DDD posted, has a profile similar to a '32 Ford. three window. Bob Drake has reproduction windshield frames from '32 up to '36 for many body styles. As in my original post, I would look into finding someone to fabricate a windshield from pieces of one. Drake also he's all sorts of hinges and swing arms. The beauty of a Rockne is that it's so rare that nobody will notice your frame from an original.
Yes, it did at the time and for Car Guys to just not get it still does. As for finding a metal guy that can piece something together I'd only have to look as far as my Mirror. For years I thought a nice one would turn up. That didn't happen. Now that the Coupe is coming back together again I put it on top of my "while your at it" list. Believe this or not I can get a Brand New one. A company in Pa. still has the original extrusion material, The original patterns and will Copper and triple nickel Chrome plus install a new Glass for me. Who would have thought? No it's not Cheep but then I don't want Cheep. Had I found a usable frame it would surly need Glass at the least. Have you delt with Chrome shops lately? I don't need any of that. Then there's the getting it ready for plating. Makes a brand new one a simple choice. Once I get a couple other answers it will be all handled and I'll move on. Once again the power of the H.A.M.B. cured a long running hunt for another Hot Rodder.
@Pist-n-Broke Please share the name of the place that can make the window frame. It might help others.
That was 30 years ago. Most of those guys are dead now. Over half the SDC is now rodded and modded Studebakers. Heck, even the guy who ran the Rockne Registry for a decade had a modded Studebaker truck. His '32 Rockne (pictured on their page) was not stock. So, shove your attitude, and go check it all out again. They are the guys with the answers you seek. You'll be surprised. You might even like it.
N/C Industries Antique Auto Parts @windshieldframes.com Sayre P.A. For some reason you can't click on the web address above but you can cut-n-paste. WARNING They will absolutely NOT do any custom sizing. Build to there stock patterns is all they do.
Mike, these guys have reproduction windshield frames for a bunch of unusual early cars. They list one for a '32 Rockne closed car, so you're in luck. I got my '32 Desoto frame with glass, hinge, side locks and weatherstrip from them and it fit perfectly. N/C Industries Antique Auto Parts 301 South Thomas Ave. P.O. Sorry, OP - only been in the SDC for 22 years - and all my Studebakers were modded. You know what? You aren't making sense. I tried to HELP you out. But your attitude BITES, so take a hike. Find your parts on your own. You don't deserve help.
Hey, PnB; Get your frustrations on/at SDC... Can relate, being a Dick Datson fan(who btw, caused me to join sdc in the 80's)... ... He's the Rodney Dangerfield of sdc... ;D . I still respect him n what he wrote - not always right, but he tried a lot of different things & put it out there, all to save the marque. Guys are correct: SDC has had to eat a lot of crow, due to restorers passing on & membership attitudes changing, so they've accepted hotrodders n customizers to survive. & a LOT of the membership approves. So there is a very real attitude change - for the better - in most guys. Lots of knowledge lost as the old restorers passed on but a lot has been recorded. Even though there was little true long distance(Studebakers DRIVERS club?) &/or everyday driving then, there is a lot more now by the "non-stock" guys... . - Well, prior to the Plandemic anyways. & in fact; they're the ones carrying the Stude Torch now, see racingstudebakers.com for some evidence. = Yehaw! *Might* be worth your time to reconsider - consider it a chance to "I told you so... " , even if you're man enough to be polite enough to not actually say it. Oh, thanks for the w/s mfgr info. I'll drop you a PM on some Rockne ad info, have no idea if it's useful, but wth, worth a try. HIH. Marcus...
