History 1933 - 1936 Willys, picture thread

Willyfaster my 36 Willys PU, was a sedan cut into PU in CA. in the early 60s. I had an accident with it the 3rd day I had it, I hit a NYC pot hole, a brake line broke and I had no brakes. Ran into the light pole and fence at Shea stadium this was 1969. Redish picture taken at Centre Island beach Bayville NY.

Somebody did a nice job on the conversion to a PU. Are the two color pics before and after the wreck?

 

Yes French both front fenders got ripped off and the drivers door flew open hit the light pole and got slammed shut. I believe the spindles broke also but I don't remember any more. And yes they did a great job on the conversion, some say "it looks more like a PU than an original one" Problem being there is no room inside for a 5' - 10" person.

Just saw the sad news that we lost another legend today. Ohio George Montgomery has passed. Very sad day.

 

Sad news indeed 33hemi all the legends are passing on. I met George in the mid 60's at the gasser meets, of course I was with the Jack Merkel camp but always respected the competition. RIP George.

Sad news. R.I.P. Ohio. I once asked him if I could photograph my '33 parked next to his and he said "sure". I made sure mine was parked a wheel length ahead of his because I knew it would never be ahead of his on the track LOL.
His car is on loan to the Henry Ford Museum in Greenfield Village, Dearborn, MI.

Tough news, We are loosing all of the good ones.

 

That started life as a 4 door sedan. Someone did quite a bit of work to fill the rear door and the quarter window. The 1935 and 1936 Panel Delivery has a completely different shape to the body and has a wood "birdcage" framing from the B pillar back and a wood floor. Also the wood is different from '35 to '36. And yes it's considered a "Panel " by the factory even though it has a single rear door because they were a commercial vehicle not based on a sedan body. The car you posted may have had a build thread on here when it was being done.

 

Just found the person who did that car and thread, did you recently buy it ?

 

THATS IT! No I'm sorry to say Jan passed away in 2015 and left everything to his girlfriend at the time, my mother in law. Now she has passed and left it to my wife. I've been searching for months for information about this car, this is a treasure trove of info thank you so much! Jan really loved restoring these cars I can see that in his work and garage.
