Does anyone know if the body tag number and the frame ser. # are the same? I have the firewall tag but the frame number is missing. The body tag is: 77 STD SN XXX . What would the would the serial number sequence look like?

Mark, Thanks for keeping your eyes open. Still looking for info on car above. Jim White believes those front Keystones were specially made for this car. So, if anyone has a pic of a '33 with Keystones, please post. We believe it to have been A/G with injected BBC.

Hi Pat. No. I sold this car about 7 years ago, kept the Hemi and 727 , and that wound up in my 55 Chevy. Body came from Ben Thompson ,Belleview Canada. Excellent glass work, but from the time I ordered it till I picked it up was almost 3 years. And everything else on the build went the same way. Finally had enough and sold it. One of the cars I regret selling and should have hung in there.

The chassis came from Butch Bailey (Blue Knight Enterprises). If I remember correctly, I think it was a TCI frt end. I sent Neil , the guy I sold it to, an email to find out if he knows its where-a-bouts today. I've always wondered what the car looked like finished.

Not wanting to sound dumb, But did all the '33 thru '36 coupes have the rear mounted spare area? I seem to recall seeing one in the early '80s that did not, But it was heavily customized.

I believe they did and it is one of "the identifiers" of these cars. It was a separate panel below the trunk lid or rumble seat. Some builders have wanted to "fix" that part of the car and certain glass bodies come with the indention smoothed over.

As a side note, sedans, and maybe some deliveries, also had the spare tire indention.

Yep. Good eye. That thing literally shook the ground when it drove by you. Beautiful car. This was also one of Ben Thompson's bodies out of Canada.

Bill still has the car. It had been House of Color candy red since '84 and now is almost back to black.

  23. Panel Deliveries like the one pictured above had the spare tire under the rear door, held up near the frame. The pickups did the same with their spare, under the tailgate up near the frame. All others had the indent on the body...good place to hang the parachute. I am not a fan of removing the indent!

I agree with you g-willys, for everything that I have actually SEEN. Now, check out this Willys brochure illustration.

    Once again, I agree.

  27. In a number of thread replies over the years, I've always said "nothing from Willys surprises me"...there may be one out there somewhere, but I've NOT seen it. My picture collection includes about 10 Deliveries, but none with the spare in the door. I have also seen a brochure with the Willys 99 in it (a bigger version of the 77)...would sure like to see one, but never have, nor heard of anyone who has. I have seen a factory picture of a 37-38 woody, but also have never seen one. Have seen 3-4 of the rare ones that are out there, but only as 40, or 41. That's what makes the Aussie ones fun...there are some nice renditions made by those body companies. IMG_0324.jpg Here's the inner workings of a panel delivery rear door that I've seen...would have been hard to fit a spare tire in that door.

  28. The roll down window in that rear door was custom added. They didn't come that way. This is the factory rear door wood frame design for 1935 and 1936. Plenty of room to mount a spare tire but I believe it couldn't handle the weight of a wheel.

  29. My take on the spare in the rear door is that is only a factory design rendition just like the 33 delivery above. JW

  30. It is nice to see some photos of the internal parts, for those in the building process. It was so long between teardown and re-assemble for me that I had to ask friends for photos of the window roll ups and how they fit, along with the vent mechanisn and all the pieces for that...forgot to take pictures on the first time around when it was all intact.
