Everything disassembled cleaned and ready to reassemble. Got the replacement axle today and a few other parts. Still waiting on some hardware.
Boy you got lucky on that one. 354 gears and lots of good parts. My tudor needed 3 rears to make one, and still couldnt come up with a drive shaft that wasn't rotten on the front bearing
Got back out in the shop today. Started by installing the pinion gear in the housing. Got the axles installed and the backlash set to .007
More work on the rear end. Installed new studs, cleaned and painted with a polyurethane coating. Cleaned and painted the new drums. I’m using Steel-it coating
Did some final fitting and installed the rear spring. I have 2 inch drop shackles and I took out three leaves. I’ll see how it sits and I may change that later
Got the left running board and left rear fender fit. Had to fill and re-drill a few holes. The reproduction running boards and reproduction frame rails didn’t play nice together. Got the right running board and fender offered up and I’m going to have the same issues.
Made a body dolly out of some old frame rails. Completely disassembled the body in preparation for the running gear test fitting
Cool ! I have one of those too, but sadly, the frame I used is so rotten it is barely good enough to store a body on.
Worked on fitting the front fenders, they need a lot of work, but they are original and I can do most of the body work on them later
Pretty happy with how all the sheetmetal is fitting with the other pieces except the frame mounting holes. I figure I’ll push and pull everything where I want it and re-drill all the mounting holes. I kind of figured there would be issues after mounting the running boards and rear fenders.
Got the grill shell fully attached to the radiator and had to put on some jewelry. Next I’ll get the inner fenders lined up and bolted. The the right looks good and the left needs to come up in the back about 1/2 inch
Got these A-pillar castings on instagram. Cleaned them up in Evaporust for three days and gave them a coat of Steel-it. They are nicer than the ones I have for the 33.
Finished mounting the front inner fenders and started mocking up the front end. I’d like to say the rearend cart was designed with multi uses in mind, but it was just a happy coincidence. Put new bushings in a set of dropped spindles and reamed them out for a nice tight fit
Yes, bolted right up. I believe they are later replacement shocks made for 33/34. The body looks like a 40 ford, but the arm is dimensionally 33/34.
Update on the pedal conversion:-( . Unfortunately this modification looks elegant, but does not work. When depressing the clutch there is too much force exerted on the shaft that is also integral to the brake pedal. Result is not ideal. I have some other ideas. More to follow
