I have been looking forever for a 33 or 34 ford 3w p***enger side door top. I'm building a salt flat style, radical
Car, so I'm wondering what other door top might be close enough? I tried to post in cl***ifieds, but for some reason I can't.

With all the stock cars that were build out of 33-34 Coupes there should be a pile of them somewere. Bob

Jim..........to fit my 34, 4 door doors in my 34, 5 window after chopping it 3.5 inches, I needed to come with a pair of 33-34 coupe door tops. The 4 door tops had the wrong curve and thickness and after chopping the top, they were also too short. Plan was to find a pair of good 33-34, 5 window coupe tops, cut 'em in half lengthwise and splice [from another 33-34, 5 window] in a short filler piece. I lot of screwing around/
I was saved from myself when an old friend stopped by the shop with a pair of 33-34 tudor sedan door tops. They were the correct thickness and had the same front-to-back curve as a coupe! Plus, they are long enough that I only needed to make one cut to shorten them to fit my car! I realize your 3 window has a longer door top than a 5 window but if you had the front half [or even just the center portion] of a 2 door sedan door top, maybe you could make it work for you. 34doortopsnew.jpg 34passdoortop7_10.JPG

I've heard (but never tried) that 35-37 pickup door fronts are very similar to 33 3-window door rear halves. But you'll need to find some 33-34 door fronts from a sedan.

  5. Not sure how the 3 window door top differ from the 5 window door top as far as the hidden details or structure. But Looking at a 5 window, the tops do not look that difficult to make, and if you are planning on a radical bonneville style chop the stock ones will be full of pie cuts, welds , fillers and irregularities covered in mud anyway.

Based on your reputation and stories told in your name around here that should take about 2&1/2 mins each side :)

Jim: I'm with 31vicky on this idea. I was thinking the same thing, having chopped a sedan and two three windows. Take which ever door top you can get and "make" it fit. Sounds crude but you can make it work. Tim

The 33/34 3/w rear door tops are distinct to the 3/w coupes. 33/4 door top fronts (at the cowl) are pretty much the same, save for the slightly taller 4 dr sedans.
I've seen guys use another door top front for the rear door top but have never seen the siamese deal work as it always stands out as a wrong shape (more like a 35/6 3/w).
I've also been looking for 3/w door tops for my puzzle 3/w sheetmetal ac***ulation, but so far have only been able to find entire 3/w doors which are real pricey. I'll probably end up fabbing some.
Don Smart once offered 3/w door tops to convert a Sedan to a Coupe. I called and talked to him as well as wrote, but could never get him to quote a price to make a set for me. Nice guy but difficult to deal with (that's my experience with him).
I agree with Vicky; slide dice a rounded rear corner and you'll be fine especially with a hard chop.

Yes, the curve and outer profile is the same, but the inner structure will need some reworking. But since it's going on a radical chop, that shouldn't be a problem. Those 35-37 PU door tops have to be fairly easy and cheap to get.

You have the pieces that you didn't use? If so. I would like to buy them. Thanks
