Since you are going fenderless, you are going to need to be careful about your choice of suspension and steering setups. Everything will be out on display. Rack and pinion is ugly as hell and not traditional in any way.

I’m not sure what the stock Mopar front end looks like but if I was starting from nothing I would probably use a Ford beam axle and F1 steering box, these are readily available/rebuildable vintage parts that look right and perform well. But before making plans on the steering I would at least settle on a frame & get your engine mocked up in it to see what you have room for.

I have a frame, and everything but the column and steering gear, i have the engine too, small manual box would be ideal as im sticking a 303 olds in it

Your current front end is side steer, right?
If you plan on keeping it, you’ll want a side steer box, not a cross steer box.

Edit: I took a look at the first pics, appears to be cross steer. I assumed side steer because the ‘32 Plymouth front end I used was side steer.

  8. I had a 625 lying around from a power steering conversion. Gave it to my buddy who put in in his 31 with a flathead. He said that it steers real easy and he doubted he would ever go back to the F1 box, Since then we have found a standard box from a jeep circa '79 that is just as good as the 625. He has built three 31's since and they all have a jeep box. If I remember I will take a pic of the jeep piece tomorrow when I am in the shop.

Chopped! 2 inches off the top looks good. Usually these look goofy chopped imo. Got some structure welded in! 20211111_164246.jpg 20211111_164255.jpg

FYI, you can use a sedan roof to repair everything on yours. I'm having to repair the left side of mine due to rot.

I may do that, most of the rot is in the filler panel but the pass side right above the door is crispy

Looks like a Ford 9 inch to me but I'm not well versed in these things.

Are you sure that's not a '49-'56 Ford? Pre 9"? Has that old u-joint style, mechanics joint is it?

Well, I hate to say it but I think I was wrong! Here are 2 pics of my '56 Ford rear end and a link to a '53 Olds rear end on the HAMB. The '56 Ford is rounded on the back while my '51 Ford rear ends have the push out for the ring gear. The Olds rear end will be much stronger and perfect for the 303 Olds engine.

    Here is the Olds link.
