1933 Plymouth PD Coupe Craigslist Find

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Jen......, Jun 11, 2012.

  1. I think that the two-door door would fit better than a four-door door. The doors on the four door are shorter, I believe. On most Chrysler products, some of the two door and coupe doors interchanged.

Good luck on the build! I am in the process of looking for a 33-34 to build myself. I love early mopars! Lots of work ahead of yourself but I'm sure you'll figure time in to get it done.

Very cool! Nice to see another one saved.

BTW, I am in need of a '33 Dodge trunk lid, if anyone know of any that could be bought.

Will this one work for you?

We have been looking for a couple years too. It's for a customer car. He has been hesitant to go to the expense of making one, but his only other choice is fiberglass I at this point.

The 4 door front doors will work but you have to shorten the heighth of the window. The 2 door sedan is too long and too tall. Plus a '34 should fit a '33.

34 has a angle change would have to be modified. its leaned back further not sure how much of a difference but thats what i been told.

sedan doors do look like they would work just small height difference as you noted. i thought i had found a sedan in LA for 1750 that i was going to use to fix this coupe with but they wont reply to me. buying individual parts is hurting me on this project i need a parts car

I found pu doors which seem to fit my 33 dodge, only they seem to be obout an 1 taller. It looks to me like the window posts need to be chopped to fit. I also heard dodge and plymouth doors won't fit each other.

    sent you a PM

i understand dodge and plymouth doors to be same unless someone tells me otherwise for 1933 . i know dodge truck doors are a little different than sedan door but not told as to what is different only that sedan doors will fit pickup with minor change. so with that much information it should be same as sedan .

my general measurements are this , just depends where the tape measure is held to be very accurate

    top 28 inchs
    middle 31 1/4 inchs
    bottom 34 5/8 inchs

height of opening is aproximate for me due to some damage to car

    41 1/2 inch front
    41 3/4 inch back

back is a little pushed up so this may go less or more as i tried to guess the actual height since i dont have coupe doors to measure

I'll try to measure my '34 coupe and 2 door sedan doors this weekend and post the measurements. If someone has a 4 door and a pickup available they could do the same and we would have alot of info for fitment.

    thank you

did look at those but from what i can tell it would require useing hidden hinges to use those and i dont wish to do that. i prefer to keep the hinges showing not looking for a street rod look to this car . maybe i am wrong

had another contact by another party who has parts but doesnt wish to send pictures . just tells me condition and price. honestly please understand i need to pictures to determine myself if its something i could use and if i consider the price reasonable.

i am trying to build this car on a budget maybe this is impossible but i think with help of others out there it is possible. please keep the offers coming and thank you everyone for your help and support

Here is what I learned when I measured my 1934 Dodges. All my measurements are on the door itself not the opening.

The 2 door sedan door at 42-1/2" measured from the rear edge to the tangent of the radius at the bottom is 8" longer than the coupe and that difference holds true all the way up.

Now the heighth is a different story. At the rear edge of the doors the sedan is 42-13/16" and the coupe is 41-5/8" while the front is 42-1/4" on the 2 door sedan and the coupe is 1" shorter. But the window opening in the center is 5/8" taller on the sedan and they have the same thickness around the window.

So what I noticed is that the doors have square corners and are taller at the rear. Then they have an arch that gradually falls toward the front that blends in with a smaller radius at the top front edge which blends into a line that angles forward to a larger radius at the bottom front edge then that is blended into a horizontal line leading to the rear edge which is perpendicular to the bottom.

The angle from the bottom of the door to the front edge looks to be 82-1/2 degrees.

From the bottom of the door to the bottom of the belt line they are each 22-1/2" and from the bottom of the beltline to the bottom of the window opening they are equal as well. Which means that the difference is in the window opening and the arch above the opening.

There are three hinges on the 2 door as opposed to two on the coupe. The lower hinge is the same distance from the bottom on each car. With the upper hinge being 3/4" higher on the coupe. The 4 doors all look to have two hinges.

I hope this is helpfull and maybe someone else will chime in with the 4 door and pickup dimensions.

    Hi,
I am looking for the sheetmetal for a "rumble seat" 1933 Dodge Cabriolet. The metal is below the decklid and above the gastank. Someone made a pickup truck out of the car in the 1950's. Any leads on this piece would be great. Floyd in KS. only has the piece for a trunk car (much, much shorter).
    thanks,
    Mike

  20. 1000 times faster and easier to make one. You'll grow old and die before finding the one body someone cut in half in 1941 and left the back portion on the farm somewhere for someone to find today, figure out what it is, and try to sell it as opposed to just scrapping that old junk.

i dont know of anyone making that piece unfortunately. i did know of floyd in KS making the other section

to update this thread a little bit .

i have bought a 1934 dodge sedan for parts . i know alot of it wont fit but the part i wanted to use a piece of was for the cowl section in case i cant fix this one. the car is basicly a skeleton not much is left on it but it does have a frame if someone is in need of one , hood and side panels as well. i do also have the grill shell with insert but want to trade that towards another grill shell.

also found a sedan door passenger side , waiting on grayhound to contact me to pick it up . hopefully in a few days.

purchased a 1 ton grill shell in case i go to use this car without fenders i wanted to see what that would look like with this grill shell . had one like this on a 1933 dodge coupe i owned a long time ago and thought it looked good when i cut it down.
someone sent me a lonely headlight that is 10 1/2 inch diameter . one person said its likely 1932 or older . i do like the looks of it but would need another one to use it though.

i will be just collecting parts for now as i'm trying to fix the house before rain comes .

trying to find someone with experence for fixing some of the major dents . i dont want someone just smear mud all over it . had someone before that was his favorite way of fixing any dent. i thought it looked very good till i looked at the back of the dent and realized he did nothing to remove it

If someone knows the heighth measurement then Floyd should be able to recreate that for you by just following the contour of the car and adding in the difference.

We used the piece from Floyd on Ricks 33 Plymouth with rumble seat lid. Had to be creative but it solved our problem. We also reversed the hinges for the rumble seat lid and made it open like a trunk. I think he still has the brackets for the rumble seat lid. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/uncle-ricks-33-plymouth-project.680682/ 3345.JPG

I know you posted this a long time ago but I am asking anyway.
I am restoring a 33 Ply 4dr (my first venture into the Mopar world) and need a few items...like the spare tire mount, tail light housing, 3 interior door handle and window crank with the ribbing, a radiator cap with the flying lady, and the radiator Plymouth emblem. If you have this stuff or know of anyone with it, It would help me a lot. Thanks, and drop me a line at gcclas@mail.com
