Old Stewart Warners. Used in many applications like boats, machinery, big trucks, and some bigger cars. If you can read the codes stamped in paint on the back, you may be able to narrow the application and year.

Some other manufacturers made very similar looking gauges too. I think AC or US Gauge made some that look almost exactly alike from the face.

Thank you! I'll start chasing marine gauge dealers and see what I might find?

Adding a couple of updated pictures from Matt on the header build. The original round port flanges are on the plastic mock up and the ovals I sent them are in the finished product.
    regards,

Well I assume your faster in doing yours than I am mine. Bought it in 1995 and just now getting around to thrashing on it. I have posted about mine, so won't go into it but could write a book and include at least 500 pictures. Will be following your progress to be sure.

After a few days effort of trying to find where the desired gauges originated... THE ANSWER IS:

1941 Graham HollyWood!( The last of the Graham Brothers History of Projects) One of three brothers could not stomach the failure and unfortunately took his own life. These gauges led me down a very interesting path of history and I look forward to having them in my coupe.

They were also used in the HupMobile SkyLark that was contracted for build by the Graham Brothers.

The guages were built by Stewart Warner and the guts were also used in 1940 by Ford Motor Co.

If any of you enjoy a little history, the Graham brothers start with Trucks and then their affiliation with Dodge is all very very interesting.

While the Cord 812 used the same body tooling, it had its own dash.
    Regards,
    George

Wow you must be posting from Australia, mate!

Great looking car; I've always loved a proper 34' with a chop.

    Thank you!...
Here's two pictures from Rex this morning showing the gauges mocked up in the dash. They will be sent out for restoration / clean up of the faces as well as being refaced for orientation and new insides with needle color to match the Police Special Speedo. You will notice that there is not a Temp gauge. As such, one of the AMP gauges will become a Volt gauge while the other one will become a TEMP guage . smile. These obviously came out of two different vehicles.
    Looking nice Rex.

    George

That Police Special is not a Harley gauge. The motorcycle Police Speedos are worth about a quarter what the car versions are worth. You have a later 1950's car speedo.

Thanks...I appreciate the information. I also have one "Police Special" that does not have the "Star" and only goes to 120mph. I'll dig it out and post a pic to get advice on what it might be??? I edited the post above to correct the info. SMILE.

The motorcycle Police Specials were slightly smaller diameter. Pretty sure most didn't have a star on them.

There are earlier car Police Speedos that only go to 120, but they are the same size as the pictured one, and they all have some sort of star on them. The earlier ones were cream/white faced.

Another small step in the build.....Josh and I talked about and decided on where to hang the 1937 Chrysler tail lights. Once we settled on where, Josh worked hard to slice the back of the buckets ....add a new section to the removed cut and then mount the buckets. They had to be rotated 180 degrees as the bezel screws were on top on the Chysler and they need to be accessed from underneath on the coupe's roll pan .

Now that Josh has the tail light housings mounted , there has to be a little thought put into what to stuff them with?
The attached pictures are a reminder of what the 1937 Chrysler housings looked like before modification, the lenses with bezels are also pictured. Also, please find the new L.E.D. assembly to provide running lights, brake lights and turn signals. I haven't seen them powered on yet and I am hoping for a little good luck and that we have white and NOT red colored light out put. Josh will hook them up here in a bit and advise. We need white and can always swap the L.E.D's out ourselves if we have too.
    Regards,
    George

All lit up... Well almost. smile. Please see the attached pics of the LED board with 12 volts applied. The good news is that it is plenty bright. The not so good news is that I am not a fan of the "cat eye" as it leaves a dark spot and I really like blue dots. Changing the cat eye out for a blue dot is easy enough to solve. HOWEVER, the LED lights inside are red and that isn't going to look good shining through a blue dot. So...the big problem...is how to source this in WHITE output LED's for optimal brightness and a nice shining blue dot?

This sub assembly is manufactured by United Pacific which is head quartered in Taiwan. I have friends there and have asked them to work the issue locally in Taiwan and see if it is at all possible to have a few made with different LED's? IF NOT, we can always use high output 1157 bulbs if it comes down to it. This is only a matter of personal preference as bulbs will obviously work just fine. It will take a week or two to run down an answer. I will advise when something is determined.
    Regards,
    George

Personally, blue dots always make me think of cars trying to add stuff that makes it look "like the 50's bro". Not really needed on a true hot rod.

I was worried your lit lenses would have the LED pattern to them, but it doesn't seem that way. I'd leave them as is.

  18. Im usually not a massive fan of the 33/34 coupes but this one is very nice. I have to say that I cant wait to see more.

I just hate the black spot when she is all lit up! Anyway, yours truly has been scrounging up 37 tail lights and has a couple of sets of bezels and lenses. I will do a pair of each style to enable a comparison. I can always change them out as it's a simple one screw effort. I want to avoid the LED pattern as well and may end up with bulbs before it is over. Appreciate your input and especially your effort to document SW gauges. Great job!

Here is a short clip of Josh demonstrating the addition of a manual tag "slide" bracket. There will be a light added to the upper roll pan for illumination. The light will be hidden from view behind the spreader bar. No need for a fancy motor. I just want to push it up and out of sight when at an event.

    OK guys....lot's to share tonight.
Gas filler has been welded in and ground. Hood belt line has been cut off of the aftermarket hood and the belt line off of an original Henry Hood has been welded back on in an effort to match the cowl belt line profile and to get a straight belt line from nose to tail. The headers have been received and are hung for exhaust side pipe build. Josh has also mounted the gas tank and just needs to fabricate a filler pipe . Rex has been on top of the gauges and sent them off to "Bob's Speedometer" for updating. They have a better turn around time than one of the big name shops and we are going to give it a shot. I have a couple of more housings and may go ahead and send them out to a separate company for back up performance. I can always use them in a project down the road.

Hope you like the progress pics...

    Regards,
    George

Tim, I told Josh that this has always been my dream car and we needed to make it mean looking. He uses the term " bad ass" but Wicked works for me too! Thank you sir.

Josh has the gas tank mounting frame fabricated and the tank installed. Additionally, he has cut the large filler hole and drilled the mounting holes.
    A little progress everyday!
    Thank you Josh!
