Technical 1934 Dodge roof insert

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by spillaneswillys, Jan 16, 2014.

  1. Hey Guys anybody out there ever made the soft top on an old sedan open up? I have a 34 Dodge sedan and want to hinge the front of the top and have it open in the back........just to be cool. Any thoughts or problems with such a modification? I am an accomplished carpenter so I can do the work but kind of unsure of the structural problems I may be creating.

Joe, I've done a few of these. Ask me the next time you're here. The roof is stiff enough without the woodwork, you just need to fab the ***embly. I usually make mine with 3/4" steel tube frame and .032 aluminum sheeting covered with Hartz Cloth. The hard part is getting them to seal properly. If you check my old build threads there are at least two shown.
