Picked up a really nice stock frame for my 3w which will end up with a chrysler firepower hemi in it. Should I box it? Just wondering what other folks have done.

I believe I would want it boxed. You are talking about a heavy engine with a lot of torque.

I believe 1933 1934 was the first Ford frame with an X member.
I've been wondering if an X member gives a frame enough rigidity that it doesn't really need to be boxed.

I'd box it too, like what's been said above, heavy motor and lots of torque.

I'd definitely want it boxed where ever the motor mounts were at.

    Flathead weighs ~550 Torque is 150 Ft-Lbs @ 2200 RPM.
    stock 331 Hemi weighs ~750 Torque is 340 Ft-Lbs @ 2800 RPM.
Almost half again the weight, more than double the twist, stock.
Add in that an original frame while still strong will not be as made, typically.
Add in a history of guys that were building cheap fast stuff doing this modification, and it should be pretty obvious. Searching for "Boxing frame" in the title yields 4 pages of results.
This one is the top result! Serendipity!

I would box the front, from the X to the front crossmember.

  10. Box it. Most of my reasons, Boyd stated already.
