Hey, So I have officially started my project, a '34 Ford PU. Still trying to figure out what I want to do with this, but I thought I'd post this as a starting point... I've already got the seat frame being cleaned up and re-upholstered (stock frame, new padding and skins). Radiator is punked, so I need to figure that out. Runs and drives very nice. Brakes stop good, shifts smooth, no strange sounds. I've got a set of 16" wires for it, as well as a set of 17's and the steels you see on it in the pics. Thoughts????
That looks like it is out of the movie "Grapes of Wrath". If it were me, I would just wash it good, get it road worthy, remove the side boards and go get it registered. Maybe hop up the flathead later on. That is a solid looking truck. Someone took good care of it for a long time. Yeah, put the 16" wires on it. Mine had them on it when I got it and they looked good to me.
X2 with cuttin the boards down to 1 - wash it 2 and by all means Wire wheels - Very nice truck sir - Great start and good luck with what ever you do !
Nice truck. Here are some inspirational photos for you to dream about. Wash it and drive it would be O.K. too!!!
Here are a couple more. I prefer the fenders on these trucks but lots of modified ones here in the valley!
OMG! What a beautiful site for my eyes. That is perfection to me. Yup, wash is if you like (I wouldn't) and make it roadworthy and drive the wheels off it! What a GREAT truck!!!!!!
Thanks! A little background. My cousins dad bought the truck new from the Healdsburg, CA dealership in '34. It was used as the ranch truck at the ranch you see in the picture. It was last registered in '69. Last driven in early '70's, last run in early '80's. I finally convinced my cousin that he was never going to do anything to the truck, and it would rot in the barn. So he reluctantly gave it to me. The sides were built by his dad. The engine is a '48 (his dad swapped it out himself). I also have the original '34 engine. Thanks for the thoughts! My plans are along the same lines...don't do anything that I can't "undo", and only use period appropriate parts. That said, since the engine isn't original, and since I HAVE the original, I would not feel bad about modding that a bit. I've got some Sharp heads already, still looking for an intake. The wheels are out for paint, and I need tires. I'm also getting the seat reskinned. I'll post more pictures soon.
A few more pictures...In the barn with the '50 we restored a while back (also belonged to the cousin's dad...27k miles on the ODO), very worn pedals, interior shot after the junk was removed, and a pic of the barn where it was stored since it was parked.
A few more...Remember when registration was on the column? I found a bunch of stuff under the front seat, including two original tool bags (with tools), hubcaps, jacks, pumps, wrenches, crank, spare fuel pump and ignition parts...
The 17" that was sitting in the yard for who knows how long... pic inside the barn pickers knives on the throttle knob...
Some people consider the 48 flathead as the best one. Put some aluminum finned heads on it and a multicarb manifold, etc and you would have an old period hot rod.
I've already got a set of Sharp finned heads for it. I'm still looking for a dual carb manifold that will work with the stock 6V generator mounting location.
