    Hi Folks.
First. If the following is too long winded, I apologize and will use the excuse of being an uninformed FNG!
I've been a member for the last few months and must say that I am greatly impressed with the talent, knowledge and honesty brought to the table by the membership.
Having lurked in the weeds for awhile, it is now time to throw out my request for input and knowledge.
Having been around hot rods for most of my life, (my Dad raced rail dragsters in the 50's and 60's), I would like to pursue building my own car. I came across a '34 original roadster that was for sale by someone who has owned it for over 50 years. The body was, at one time, channelled however, it is in fantastic shape and lazer straight. It would need a complete floor replacement. The doors are perfect and have no repairs. The rear quarters and lower cowl have had minimal work done. All work to the body is visible and not painted over.
All the hardware is with it, albeit the windshield frame would be best replaced. It has a rumble lid. The frame is currently set up with an independant front, original style Mustang II A arms, a 69 Mustang 302 engine with less than 30K, and a ford 9'' rear. The frame was bobbed at the back. The grill is tired with a few broken bars broken off just at the crank hole. It retains all the chrome. It has the original hood with original black paint on it. I have left him with a minimal downpayment but would like to ask all of your thoughts on what you think would be a fair price on it?
Guys, I need the brutal honesty.
    Thanks,
    130driver

Welcome, if you swing this as your 1st hot too its a great score.

Have you asked him what he wants for it? Besides the front end and maybe the 302 it sounds AWESOME so get all over it as he may tell others its for sale. DONT post a link to it here either but if you have some photos post them. The work you described is minimal.

Sounds like the makings of a great traditional hot rod. Sorry I can't be of more help as to value but being a '32 slave high prices are normal. The '33-'34 cars make super hot rods and if it's in more or less a rust free state the value is bound to be in the thousands of dollars. I'm, sure there will be others who post that have more value knowledge ofthis particular car so stick around.

By minimal downpayment, I mean $50 and a handshake to hold it for 2 weeks. I've watched prices on sedans and coupes but never a roadster. Just wondering what all you experienced guys would do. Thanks.

Thanks Panhead_Pete. He wants 12K for it. He won't budge. I think its a great deal however, I've been known to be wrong. I appreciate any input.

$12K sounds about right for what you have described. If you can afford it and it is what you want, GO FOR IT. Once you have it, post some pics. It sounds cool!

A real steel roadster is worth more than 12,000 even needing floors.

12K is a gift. I've seen nice bodys in the 30-40K range if the wood is decent. Jump all over it.

  10. If you bought a new roadster body from Steve's Auto Restoration with the cowl vent, rumble deck lid with hinges, and inner door handle linkage installed it would cost $17,650. Steve's sells brand new floor pans for $1,895, if you only bought just the body without the rolling ch***is for $12,000, you'd still $3,755 ahead. If I was you and wanted to own a 34 roadster I would have already brought it home yesterday.

That's a score. I would be standing in front of the bank right now, waiting for the doors to open on Tuesday!
