Got some more done on the car over the weekend. I played around with the pass side a little more, then I got going on the driver side. I had to carve the bondo out of the driver side aswell to start. Then I cut out the wheel well from the 4dr and narrowed it and cut out the rust. once it was narrowed I spotted it in. Then I fit the lower quarter patch and spoted it in. A bunck more welding and hammering and dollying I got her licked.

This week I'll tie up some loose ends here and there. Then I can cut the doors open and see where were at.

And yours truly is going to cut up these two 4drs and turn them into what every 4dr dreams of being....A Coupe!....LOL reminds me of my fav childhood cartoon Tex Avery's "One Cabs Family" the little sedan taxi cab wanted to be a Hot rod.

Had another weekend to work on the "Coupe" I was able to get some hammer and dolly work done on it and some grinding and button up a few little things. Now that the rear of the body is all welded up and secure It's time to cut the doors open and see where were at. The first pic tells the story. Bang on. I was grinning from ear to ear when I saw that. Now that the doors are swinging it's time to lay out the CHOP.:D Ive never done a chop on one of these, so Its gonna be a figure it out as I go type thing. I spent the whole day laying it out and I cut everything real carefull. This is what I came up with After I set the roof back down to see where we were, as far as the general look goes. Tuff to say. I need to get the door back on and welded shut before I go much further. Before I do that I need to slice the cowl open along the top to lay back the posts. I'll do that during the week. I hope it turns out, Nothing is eaven close to lining back up.LOL:cool:

That's a heck of a whack, not sure I could sit in there, or see out of it. Side profile looks decent but the windshield height seems tiny to me. Curious to see it pieced together and aligned.

Thanks Dan I like them hit hard like yours. Salty style.

That old coupe your working on sure has made leaps and bounds since this time last year. Your doing a hell of a job. What is the height of the glass in the center of your windshield frame going to end up as?

I spent an hour staring at mine last night and I think I'm going to take some more out of the "b" pillars to take a little bit of the rake out. It looks a bit to sloped for me. Still needs dialing in. I haven't lifted it on and off 200 times yet.

My exposed glass at the center is just over 4 3/4". I'm not building a Lexus here, it's a Hot Rod and as for me "Too much is never enough".
As to your roof, I think it has a little to much angle. Mine ended up about 1 1/4 more in the front than the rear, maybe a little more. It's hard to tell once you cut out your cut lines and then trim and shave for fit.
You might think about cutting your windsheild frame to the size you like, then make the car fit it. That is basically what I did at the front.

Got out to the shop this week a bit. I was able to get the door tops cut off and the doors mounted back on the car. Before I did that I layed out and cut the cowl so I could start laying back the A pillars. Once I did that I regapped the doors and welded them shut again. Then I sliced the inner structure out of the header of the roof so I could make my cuts to lean the A pillar on the roof. This is how it looks. Kinda mocked up. I think im going to Take a bit more out of the B pillars still.

Too much forward slant on the roof over the doors. Bump it up at least a half inch or more.

  13. First time I have seen this thread, amazing job !

  14. The upper door frame will make the opening almost 2" smaller. The door frames are lower than the windshield opening . That will Be pretty damn small opening with a whole lotta metal in the front corners of the doors.
It's radical for sure. I see that radical wedge chop adding some headroom in the driver position, but raising the header will make visibility better and I believe help the crowded front corner of the door.

I just have an eye for this and unfortunately a mouth :)
    Great work Brad!!

Ps, your picture is a big one, damn!

I didn't get a whole lot of time to work on the coupe this weekend. But I did squeeze in an hour. I was able to pull some of the wedge out of if here's a side by side of the before and after.

The left is Before and the write is after. It's a sudle change but I think this is where i'm going to keep it.

Is that one of those "how many differences can you spot" things? Well, I see the air hose has been moved. And the light was on in the hallway in the first pic. But the roof hasn't been raised. :)

  17. Looks like the lean on the front pillars was reduced a tad and the roof was slid forward. At least that's what I can see on the B pillar and trunc panel. Idk ?

I Didnt raise the front. The front definetly does not need to go up. I took almost a Half inch out of the B pillar. The pictures don't show it well but in person the change was verry noticeable. Now I'm going to work on getting those quarter windows lining back up again.

    Brad,
I done these 2 pics in paint so you could get an idea of which one you think looks better, first one is moving the lower piece forward, second one is moving the upper back....Personally I would move the lower piece forward rather than have such a long quarter window. Not trying to tell you what to do just trying to help you get an idea of what you want to end up with. either way it is going to be cool..

    Thanks Cowtown!

I'm not too sure what to do there the jury is still out. When you actually look at the car it's a long way to move the bottom forward. It will make that quarter window look pretty small I think it may look a bit out of proportion.

  25. Maybe you can someone to super impose this to give you a good visual.
I'm sure you stared at pics till your eyes bleed too though.
Sometimes cameras put a distortion on the image and then monitors do it again.
Look great brad! And you seem to be making great progress in the time frame.

Well I wasn't able to get any work done on the car this weekend in a physical sense. However I did go on a 10hr round trip to go get a few parts for it. I got a grill and rad. Also a 354 ring and pinion for my banjo, a pair of Model A shocks and a 36 drive shaft that can be used for my exhaust. I'm not too sure if I will use it for the exhaust but I figured for 30 bucks it was worth having the option. 36 Drive shaft exhaust pipes are cool as hell but are feeling a little done to death for some reason. I plan on stitching that roof back on this week it's killing me having not got anything done on it this week. Oh well I guess that's how she goes.

I got some more work done on the coupe this weekend. I got the roof all squared up and decided on it's final resting position. I got all the major attachment points solidly tacked together. then I focused on the 5th window opening. I decided since I already pushed the back of the roof forward more than an orig 5 window I would make the 5th windows larger by adding a piece to make them line up. here's how it turned out. The passenger side is done now I have to reproduce it on the driver side.
