Thought I knew this but now not so sure. Does the serial number on the left front frame rail of a 1935-36 truck(pick-up) always start with "18" and would the original engine number match this? Any answers/opinions welcome. Thanks

The serial number matches the original number on the ****** pad/BH surface. Engines didn't have a number from Ford, as far as I know.

Check out Vanpelts site for S/N info.

Vanpelts not clear. Could 35-36 pickup serial # on frame rail/***le begin with an "A"? Thanks

  4. No. You should post a picture of the number (cell phones take great photos) and maybe it will lead to something. If You are concerned about posting the serial number put a piece of tape over the last three digits.

Thanks Charlie, The serial # is from a 35 truck I am considering purchasing so it is a little difficult to take a photo as it is 2k miles away. An original truck, serial # matching the number on the ***le with the number having a star, then A and five numerals and a star on the frame rail where it should be. I have a number of 35-36 historical do***ents from years of fooling with these trucks including my own current driver and all start with 18. Makes no sense to me as I am told the truck has had few owners and it appears so. Thanks

The serial number should be in the millions, not only 5 digits. That number is wrong. Could there be other digits there that just can't be seen, like rusty or too light of a stamp? But that wouldn't explain the ***le matching it.

A star, followed by a letter A, five digits, and another star, is an early Model A serial number, mid April, 1928.

Something is not right. Model A's topped out around 5,000,000. So even seven digits says it's a Model A, but it is not.

Please acquire pictures, and post them here.

1935 Ford vehicles used serialized engines. Trucks, cars, and variants had different prefixes, but those were followed by the engine number. By 1935, they were into the millions, so seven digits. They went cranking right past five digits in 1932.

Thanks to all who are helping, I was pretty sure I was right about the number not being correct. More research to be done.

Thanks again to all who contributed their knowledge to my inquiry. As of this time I have not received any of the requested photos of the serial number stamping in the frame or the ***le showing the number although I did receive many technical photos showing the machine very thoroughly and that was much appreciated. As we all know by now and some have learned the hard way, DMV is concerned with nothing but numbers and paperwork and because of this it appears this deal has crashed. Too bad as this is a nice machine with questionable provenance in the eyes of the DMV.

    Red-flag factory outlet.

    I'd steer clear.
