We were heating that thing up pretty good for a while. We would heat, hit!!! heat some more hit!! that thing had to be good and hot.

Are the Perches two pieces?? How would you fix a mushroomed thread after the all is said and done. I could have swore I seen a threaded end sold separately somewhere.

Evel, Maybe now that you work at ASS I'll bring it in so you can change my oil, as long as you promise to top off my fluids. Haha!!! Thanks dude, even though I know your really not jealous over my Rockabilly Red Rat Rod. How's it feel having LW back? I bet it's like heaven only muggier.

JESSE I AM NEVER READING YOUR THREADS AGAIN. I just got sick to my stomach. the first one was how you grabbed that 32 and have plans, not you have a 35. Im done being your virtual friend who have never spoken but know who each other are but never met and are jealous of what one has but still like the same kinds of things so we are subconsciously happy for the other person.... BLAH there i said it I HATE YOU< BUT LOVE YOUR CAR>

  8. JJ, you ave to get that axle red hot around the pin. U usually take a pipe wrench and put on the head of the perch polt while the axle is red, wiggle it back and forth to loosen it. MAKE SURE THE BOTTOM OF THE BOLT IS TURNING TOO, NOT JUST THE TOP. Keep doing that and it'll get looser and looser. Tap out while still red hot. If you let the axle cool it'll just get tighter. Heat expands the axle. No idea why your wishbone is welded to the axle, but just cut and grind!

  9. Nice coupe.

    One of my favorites.

As for the SBC, good engines, don't sweat it.

Keep the hood closed, most people will think there's an SBC in there anyway.

I have people look over my 462" BB Buick powered 32, look through the louvers where the rocker covers say, "Buick" and ask if it's a Chevy.

As well as had a couple guys walk away telling their girl friends that it was a Hemi....

Jesse??? Since you got my name wrong, I forget the hurtful things that you just said.

Damn it Chris, that's good advise but just one side too late. I'll see how bad it is but I think that you are one to something there. I'll have to go back to the shop because I don't have tanks for my torches yet. What about the method that I found last night?

This might be the funniest thing you have ever said. The Pittsburg Way hahahahahah!!!! It's like the movie Slapshot.

Don't worry dude, I'm coming to get that shit from you. I will be that rat rodder.

  12. You can avoid a mushroomed bolt head by screwing on a nut before beating on it with a hammer.

Repairing a mushroomed head can be done by carefully grinding the mushroomed area to the original OD of the threaded area.
Then spin a die of the right size down the threaded area.

We had the nut on there when we were hammering but then it exploded fell off. The grinding of the bolt and re-threading it was and idea that Boobie gave to me. Now that you have confirmed it I feel much more at ease. Looks like I am going to take the whole night and get those things out carefully.

Congrats dude ! Neat car. The key to making that car a notch above the rest? Tire combo and the right stance. You don't have to do anything else, but if it sits right and has that correct tires you're in!

Whoa! I guess this is why I am running through all the options and asking every question I possibly can. Hopefully it'll serve some people and let them know their options. Old-Soul, I was about 15 mins from where your Perch Bolts are right now. We had the band saw in hand.

Zach the subtle look is awesome and I can't wait to see your car come together because I know your not planning for a real hammered look right? My favorite '36 is actually the Pierson 3 window and I actually believe that one was probably lowered with just spring adjustment because it say up pretty high.

The effort is not really a problem because I still feel like owe my dues as far as early fords go. The perch bolts are a real pain in the ass to get out but I've been having fun every minute so far. I am pretty set in my ways that I know I'll see it through as long as I keep inching along.

Oh man, we soaked the f*ckers in 'moose piss' (nut-cracker stuff) and beat the hell out of them, then I left them overnight in a press hoping they would mysteriously come apart before morning, finally it came down to hacking them off, one guy holding a drift (scared shitless) with the other guy using a two-hander sledge on the damn thing to get it to come out! Rediculous!

Looking forward to the progression of your coupe buddy!

  22. Rose bud on your torch works wonders, too. Get that axle HOT. I have removed many-o perch pns and it's always an ugly fight. I've even cut the axle with the torch just to save the pins before (axle was junk).

If fuckin BloodyKnuckles put half the effort into that thing as he did sliding through the passanger window of his car at the round up you'd already be out drivin the Red Fox up to lovers lane in the 35 to do...well, what the lil lady wants.

  25. You sonofabitch! That was a hard time in my life. I was horribly traumatised. I have tried to forget that part of my life and you had to bring it back up. I swear, I swear I will come to Washington and force your fat ass to do "The Bo Duke" through my window and see how you feel. Violated is a good term to use. .....I hate you Chris!

    BTW...Boobie is not my name N.....Nose J.J.

Hey Boobie, are you ready to get back at it tonight?? Your not going to let this thing beat you are you?

Dreddy, I've looked into this type of suspension it more of a prewar style right??? Fucker.

  28. Wow, "hate" is such a strong word. I "hate" Brocolli, and I "hate" tomatoes. Those words are real as are the feelings behind them. But I don't hate you Boobie. Even with this anger you show for me...I can still love you. I uderstand your frustration and anguish from those very horrific, degrading photos posted on an open forum online from one JJ. But to lash out on me is not the key to your happiness. You should try reversing your anger and frustration. Spear it on those perch pins bolts. I bet they will plain fall out when they see your angry energy if you use it correctly. Channel your powers through the sledge and puch, and help JJ gets those bolts out, as it is obvious he cannot help himself.

JJ, I dub your 35 the "baby maker"

Man, I have drunken to many beers tonight.

Went back to the shop tonight to put some more hurt on the Perch Bolts. The one we mushroomed last night is still holing strong. We did as advised and got the thing cherry hot and with a pipe wrench tried to wiggle the perch back and forth but there was zero movement.

We then took it to the Manual press and tried to force it out while keeping it hot. Del (hotdamn) cranked that fucker till he was blue in the face and all we did was turn a 6" grade five bolt into a 4" bent piece of steel.

On the other side we tried the press again and the Perch bolt came out with fairly little ease which makes me think that the force from hitting the other the night before has mushroomed the bolt inside the axle. Not good but I am still trying.

My idea is to take that axle to a friends and have in drillout the perch bolt on a lathe. The I will take a new perch bolt from a spring over and cut it where I need it then hand it over to my neighbor across the street to TIG it on the one that's fucked. Good idea????

  30. Post a picture of what the bolt top looks like...I may have a spare set thats good. And to add to that, if your not using the meachanical brakes or orriginal shocks, you can use any perch pin your lil heart desires. I know I have spares of 42-48 style pins.
