Hot Rods >>>1935 Ford Coupe: An Idiots Guide To Buiding A Hot Rod<<<

  1. Just for the shit giggles of it all, heres my friend Lenny's 36 I helped him lower. It has a 4" dropped axle, a reverse eyed spring and 1" longer shackles up front. Rear is reverse eyed main, 2 leafs removed and 1" longer shackels.

And Devin's 36. Lowered pretty much the same, but with smaller tires/wheels

I figured you were going to be passed out ass up by now after the tipping back the suds.

Well that's good to know that I have options there. The tube shock now mounts through the Perch Bolt by the way of a regular shock bolt. I will have to go out and take a pic so I will let you know tomorrow. You were definitely right though, these things are a complete bitch to remove.

It's funny that you just showed those pics because I was going to ask about them earlier today. I'll definitely keep that in mind when I get the axle back. They both sit so nice!!!

Also ordered my tires today and I am picking them up next week from Coker. I got...

7.50-16's with a 4 7/8" White Wall for the back and
5.50-16's with a 2.1/2" White Wall for the front.

I hope I made the right decision on those and look killer but won't know till I get them mounted.

  4. That is the exact combo I'm running on my A. Don't worry, the rear ones will not look too small.

Heres my old 41. Again, 7.50x16's in the back and 6.00x16's up front

    on the perch bolts,

    get a press

heat the shit out of both sides of the axle with a rosebud till cherry red, while its in the press with a little bit of pressure

    press out the perch bolt

    throw away the perch bolt.

repeat on other side but save the perch bolt

    Awesome!! Really solid looking car!!

Yep that's pretty much what we did but even under the press with the axle cherry red, the first side is still not coming out.

  8. I think you've mushroomes it too bad. Did you try grinding the threaded side down a bit, so it is a little smaller OD than the hole?

That makes the new cars here at the dealership look rusty. Nice.

We ended up cutting off the top because it was mushroomed so bad. My neighbor said that it would be no big deal to TIG another on so I did not try to save that one. The mushroomed part was cut off and the press still could not budge the thing at all. Not even a fraction of an inch.

Lathe is up next I think. I am going to drill that fucker out and either weld a new Perch on like these...

Or hope to god that I can come up with one more asap. I need to get that Axle out to Jordan like yesterday!!!

  12. Like I said, post a pic of the one you need, I may have one.

Expand on this thought. What that says to me is either you already gave it away, or I am the Ratrod kid and your are bequeathing it to me. Anyways, I appreciate the respect.

Chris, I'll take a pic when I get home from work today. It's the Red FOx's Birthday!!!

    Gotcha, I'm coming for it!!!

Alright now my new problem is whether to run 5.50's or 6.00 up front. I ordered the 5.50's from Coker already but I have a day or two to change my mind. Any examples???

I have a set of 6.00 Allstates but they see to be a little bigger then the firestones at about half an inch. Tires are such finicky thing to order. There is no right and wrong and it's very subjective.

    NEW Tires suck....

I havent been happy with anything made of rubber that rolls....

Since my orange and black Sims Street Wheels.....I have you know that they were on a pink ALVA Eddie Reategui(sp)....see PINK aint no new thing to me....that was 1984....

I did like black rat bones....

  19. JJ - I have some 6.00 Allstates on the front of my '34 project as rollers. I also have a set of used cokers that are 6.00. The Cokers aren't mounted , but they are at least an inch smaller than the Allstates. I bring this up because I need to order new fronts and cannot decide what size. I can't post a pic(iPhone) but if you look at my build thread ther are some pics. The rears are new Coker 7.50.

  20. I vote 6.00's. The 5.50's are pretty small for such a big car. Here's my Dad's 36, has 6.00 Firestones all the way around. Photoshop this sucker down a bit

  21. More 6.00's

  22. Another vote for 6's on the front.... Personally I think the full fenders need the visual weight. My truck has 6x16 with a 3" WW on the front. 7.50x16 4.25" WW on the back.

Dude I was two in '82. When I got into in in '88 or '89 I was running a Powell Peralta Halk Claw (black version with clear grip) with Pink Slimballs. like 61 mm I think. Rad times and indeed good wheels. Shredder!!!

The 6.00's do look good. My only problem is that the Allstates that I have are like .5-1" bigger and since the car is coming down a bunch in front I don't want rubbing issues. The 6.00's do look good any examples of the 5.50-16's??

That 5 window looks kick ass with a rake. I should paint my car so it's nice like that.
