Greetings - I have a question about early for d steering boxes. I have a Canadian made 35 Coupe which I purchased in November 2021. I have since discovered it has a '37 running gear (Engine Block, Transmission and differential) so, my attention is now drawn to the steering box. I'm unsure what year the steering box is (the mounting is a little strange - see one of the bolts seems to be a McGiver fastener. The pitman arm is also a bit strange and does not look to be properly installed. My question is; can anyone identify the steering box in the picture (my steering box) what year is it? Does anything about it look our of place, let me know. Thanks
Its a 37- 40 style box.It was adapted to the 35-36 bracket. The 37-40 boxes are much better as they have a roller sector. You could replace that frame bracket with a 37-40 and still use that box.Brackets are out there and also repoped .Besides being riveted in the frame there is 1 spotweld to drill out.
agreed... the '35 was henry's first attempt at cross steering ... figures they would have been improved for the next generation...
Nobby, how could one bracket cover all the years when the boxes have different mounting ears? Is your part mislabeled?
model Ts never counted at my house... have had [252] half bodies from '28 to '34 but never dragged a model T home... no idea on their suspensions...
