Technical 1935 Ford PU OEM Bench seat

I have not been able to figure out where or how these steel pieces mount? They are attached to the upper portion of my bench frame. In all the other images I have seen people have cut them off.

 

I believe they slide up into slots in the reinforcement lip along the back of the cab.

 

I would love to see a picture so I could put them back to the original. Were exposed or covered?
