I started today on the deck lid. Its sad to see one this nice get rusted out. There isnt hardly a single dent on the outer or inner skins, but im sure it sat upside down and so almost the entire inside edge is rusted gone.

My plans are to take another deck lid that im getting that doesnt have any rust just lots of dents. And use sections of the inner structure to repair this one.

I got the skin seporated from the inner structure and i'll get them both blasted to start my repairs.

Thanks for posting all of the metal work. For us mere mortals it is inspiriational to see how it's done the right way. For myself, I'm sorry that I did not get exposed to this aspect of car crafting sooner in my life as I would have liked to get proficient in doing metal work. What little I've experimented with has just created a desire to learn more.

Its been a while since Ive worked on the 3 window. Its hard to see the economy effect my customers.

I got another decklid. Hopefully out of the two I should be able to make a nice one.

Today I got all the decklid parts sandblasted. When I got them back to the shop I decided that it would be faster for me to work the dents out of the donor decklid skin than make a completely new skin.

I started working the dents out of the skin. Its getting pretty close, now its just working out all the small imperfections.

Then once the outer skin is finished I will use sections of the donor inner panel to replace the rusted out sections of the other inner panel.

Ive been excited to get back on this project for some time. The owner came down this weekend and we went over some of the different changes we will be making to the back of the car.

First thing is that he wanted the bumper area smoothed. Ive always thought that with how beautiful the curves are around the back, that the straight line across from bumper bracket to bumper bracket looked out of place. So I made a new panel that is curved. This should give the two areas a nice transition now.

I got the bottom all finished up today. I still have to re-work the inner panel to make it fit. Then its on to the re-designed trunk.

I got the rear of the car attached back on the body today.

Now the next thing is we are going to make a completely re-designed deck lid for the car. Unless you have a rumble seat the opening looks out of place being square. So I am wanting to make it flow more with the outside of the body. Just mocking up some lines to see how I like it.

Got the drivers side opening made up. Once this side is in its final place I'll take a pattern, flip it and make the other side.
