Hey hows it going? I have my hands on a pretty clean 36 chevy pickup. I picked this up in pieces and have been slowly doing the body work on the "tins". Anyhow Before I get too in depth with the lower cab work etc.. I am stuck on what to run for framework. I was given the original frame but it has been modified and has to be "modified right" for my use. Anyhow what I am getting at is I am running fenders because I hate to no seeing how rare the vehicle is but does anyone know what chasis I can run a 1936 Chevy pu on? I was told the s 10 is out of the question because of the steering column and geerbox etc.. Anyhow I have searched high and low for an answer and measured here and there and not sure. Any help on somone who has done one would be a great help and or pictures. I am ready to make my rolling chasis and wanna do this right. Engine will be a S.B.C. Also does anyone know where to get cab patches (lower areas). Making them now but time savings would be nice. 30s stuff is hard to come by.Thank you much.
That would be following the rules,, I am sure you will get better results after you make an introduction, Please read the forum rules,, and btw, there is a thread about mounting old iron on s 10 chassis,, you could learn a lot there,,, Novadude55
There are no patch panels available that I am aware of. I am working on a '34 on a heavily modified original frame. See the link in my sig line if you are interested in seeing how I attacked mine. Cheers and good luck!
Welcome to the HAMB. My grandson and I put a 38 chevy cab on a 51 chevy truck frame. That may work for you. Tom (Tired Old Man)
I'm not sure what you are saying. You want to run fenders because it is a rare truck? But you want to run a late model chassis? The S-10 chassis can be made to work but I would look for a 30s Chevy truck chassis myself. they go cheap not at all like buying a ford chassis. And don't ask where to look for a chassis just get off your duff and beat the bushes. You might try our classifieds for starters.
Not much of anything available for lower patch panels. They seem to start at 1940 and go up. Seems like you could find 30's ford sedan frame to chop down and modify. Gotta be a ton of these truck frames out there, never seem to find anything but the cab
I've been researching the S10 frame swaps.....just got an S10 donor truck. They seem to be the easiest, you can get parts practically anywhere, and there are even companies that make/sell motor mount conversions and mount bracket kits for the late 30's & 40's bodies to set on the S10 frames.
dont use the S10 on that year. i'm trying to put a 37 on an S10 and the steering box cuts into the fender and the rad surround. and i havn't had much luck installing a strg. rack. plus the bulge in the front needs to be cut to clear the cab at the firewall. checked out a mid 80's mazda frame and it looks like it might work, but i was thinking of adding a straight axle
There are lots of original '30's frames around if you look for them. The one under this truck came from a mid-west junkyard. Use an original if you want to keep the truck semi-original. Fatman makes an independent front end for it,too.
Thanks for the help, ill try to get some pics of it on here soon. Trying to get some body work done to it first but in the midst get my rolling Chasis together. I do have the original frame and that is what i will most likely run. Ive just read, seen, and helped with much on s 10 frames and they seem to go together very well.
