I've been tasked with fixing a prior owner's hack job on a 36 Chevy pickup. I would really like to see one of these trucks in person if someone is in the Houston TX area. If not, some pics would be very helpful. Or steering me to some informative websites. I'm interested in how the from sheet metal is hung/attached to the cab and front section of the frame (fenders, running boards, grill shell etc). Thanks in advance.
Do you have a low or high cab 36? Or in other words, does it have the same cab as the 37 or not? I have not had a 36 in a long time, but I have my 37 still. I don't have any good pics handy, but the front sheetmetal is pretty simply mounted factory. The fenders do not actually bolt to the cab, just to the running board, the inner fender and the grille shell. The inner fender has a bracket that bolts on top of the frame close to the firewall with 2 bolts and then with 3 or 4 down the grille shell. There is also a fender bracket in the front that bolts through the grille shell to the frame of the grille shell. The grille shell bolts to the front crossmember with 2 bolts at the bottom in the center and then there are 2 strut rods that crisscross and mount to the top of the firewall. The running boards are mounted to an L shaped bracket that was riveted to the frame with 3 rivets. If I recall there are reprints of the factory body shop manuals available that have dimensions, pics and such if you want to buy it. Try Jim Carters, look at stovebolt.com, VCCA.org as well. Also here is a neat bit of info: http://gmheritagecenter.com/docs/gm...its/Chevrolet-Trucks/1936-Chevrolet-Truck.pdf If you get stuck, I can take some pics when I get a chance of my 37. Jason
got a few pics of my 36 build the link is in my signature not sure how much help it will be because I went fender-less
Thank you sirs. It seems that the previous owner did away with the inner fenders. I've found fiberglass reproductions.
