1936 Ford 5 window coupe project

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Powerplant, Dec 27, 2011.

  1. Hello Everyone

I've had an itch for a coupe of some sort over the last 4-5 years. Around here there was always a story about a guy who had barns full of old cars but nobody ever really knew for sure. Story turns out to be true as another guy bought every single one of them and stuck them all in a mud hole of a yard. Over a year ago i stopped in to ask the guy what the deal was and he handed me a list of prices... high enough that I didn't pay much attention to what he had after that. My buddy noticed a couple of Ford coupes and pointed out to me that they would be worth saving but also said his price just wasn't worth it. Forward to a couple weeks ago.. I stopped in, talked to the guy and low and behold struck a deal. It probably helped that he came out of the house with a mason jar filled with a orange liquid type substance that he was drinking. Anyway....

I'll try to keep this thread updated with my build progress, I'll warn you though... it will be slow going.

Wondering what the heck rear wheel bolt pattern that has... it almost looks like it has a modern front wheel drive rear tube axle in it?

    I like! I'll be watching.

  11. Good eye... the previous owner tacked up some piping in there with some sort of wheel bearing on each end just to have wheels on it for moving it around I imagine. The whole rear axle / suspenion is missing.

I just noticed that you car has spoke wheels! I thought all 36's were wide five. Is yours a 35 with 36 front sheetmetal?

  24. I scratched my head on this too... I'm not sure what the deal is..

A quick update... I almost have the whole car torn down. I ordered some new rails... I'll try to post some pics of the progress when I have some time.

  26. Update...

Not much done on the car itself but I've been gathering parts. Ordered up a set of rails and bought some steel to fab up a frame table.

Picked up the engine that will power this beast, 1964 Buick 425 nailhead. This particular engine has quite a story behind it.... check the link for a better explanation...

  27. Update

Pulled the body off the frame. Seems the gantry crane I built is worth it's weight in gold. But the frame is worth it's weight in cow dung. New rails are here though so I can cure that.

Some pics of the nailhead I picked up out of the SR71 Blackbird starter cart. The fastest 36 5 window on the planet maybe?

Time to get the body on a cart and start building a frame table.
