Max is working on the rear pillar section's now. He cut away the old thin holy part.
    DSCN8699.JPG
Then formed up a 16 gage cap to add some strength to the pillar.

    Tig welded it in.

Next he made a 16 gage tapered filler panel.

A Little progress on the 57 custom Pontiac the pictures should give you an idea what is going on its all time consuming hand fab at the present. Doing a total roof style change & chop is a lot more complicated then a straight chop. but this thing is starting to look real good in our & the owners opinion.

Love it! Interesting idea for a window line too. Not something I recall seeing on a 50ies car, but it does look good.

James D we are trying to take a lot of the ugly out of a 60's era custom's. Our goal when finished is make people stop & look then re look & look some more. This is not your normal cookies cutter custom. We are going for a very unique & eye appealing car. Having an energetic owner that wants to make it different then the other's out there helps. We are always open to ideas.

The Coronet is back from the blast shop so the first thing we do is sand every thing with 80 grit it is less prone to start rusting & the metal etch works better.
    DSCN8800.JPG
    DSCN8801.JPG
    DSCN8802.JPG
Then we finished stripping off the old sheet metal & coated the wheel tub & inner structure where no patch panels will be be needed with Por 15.
    DSCN8815.JPG
The trunk floor needs so care in a few spots so Max started making patch panels
    DSCN8830.JPG
    Then welded them in.
    DSCN8831.JPG
    DSCN8832.JPG
The trunk floor drop needs some attention also.
    DSCN8840.JPG
    DSCN8846.JPG
thats it for today but more to come.

We sand the cars down with 80 grit at our shop too. It works great. The cars can sit for months in the shop and the only rust they accumulate is where people decide to lean on them or touch them

And a quick minor re sand where that happens, FOMOCOKID enjoying your build hope after the first of the year to get back on one of my (2) 36 roadsters. Between customer work & building expansion my budget & time are stretched to the limit at 64 I just don't work the hrs & have the energy I used to.
