I must be stupid. I recently bought a 37 Chevy coupe street rod semi-project car. It has the factory grill. It was missing the crank hole cover, so I ordered one for the 37 p***enger car from The Filling Station. Came today. Can't figure how it mounts. Anyone know? Am I missing a hinge or some other mounting device for it? TIA. Chuck
From factory there was a spring steel clip that held them in. I know the repro 39's are set up to be bolted and not removable.
My cover is simply a stainless steel "U" shaped gizmo, about 4" long. It's actually wider than the grill itself. I'll post some pictures.
I have the same problem. The repros are not shaped like the originals. Years ago I did have an original one that either fell out or got stolen. Looking for a more permanent way to attach without using a stainless screw like I have seen others do. I will be watching your thread for ideas. I have a friend that does excellent work on repairing stainless. May take it to him this winter if I decide to take my grille out or I could try holding it in place with a good metal adhesive. Until I find a good solution my cover sits in my glove box.
You're in the same boat as me. If you look at my pictures, I already have a screw in the grill, but this crank cover isn't long enough to utilize that screw and cover the opening.
Not for sure, but I would imagine that there are some "tangs" that can be bent over the back side to hold it solid. Stu
I'm bringing this back TTT as they say, as I have solved the problem, and wanted to p*** on the solution. The problem was that "The Filling Station" sells a one size fits all crank hole cover. That's the one that did not fit. I was looking through the "Chevys Of The Forties" catalog, and they listed one cover for a stock grill, and one for an aftermarket grill. I ordered one for the stock grill, and it fits just fine. It has pinch-on ribs on the top, but I added the screw, as I figured it would pop off if I didn't. It wouldn't lay flat with the screw that holds the center grill bar anyway.
