I've seen a couple but not many. I know it was a low production number car. However, does anyone know or have seen a slant back '37 made from a regular hump back sedan? Just curious. Thanks in advance, Andy from STL
There was a write-up on this conversion in one of the old John Dianna Buckaroo magazines. Did a quick look in the magazine rack and couldn't find it.
So it’s been done. Doesn’t look like a very intuitive conversion. Are those coupe twilights on the slant back? any suggestions on how to get a copy of thst magazine. Library perhaps. Thanks in advance, Andy from STL
Quick search on EvilBay and I have a copy for a couple of bucks. Curiosity got the best of me. Thanks for the help. The HAMB never disappoints. The depth of knowledge here never ceases to amaze me. Andy from STL
It's a pretty thorough coverage of the conversion in the Mag. 12 pages with lots of pictures. It is a conversion to a trunk in a slantback style though not just converting to a straight slantback.
Crazy to see this thread because: I just saw a 38 flat back two door on a trailer on Saturday going south on 287 just outside of Fort Worth. I remarked to my wife "you never see those, pretty rare, because who would buy a car without a trunk?" Looked like it had just been drug out of a barn. Those flat back tail lights are specific to that model. Might be the same as a Sedan Delivery? Which is also pretty rare.
There was a pair of '37 or '38 Chevy's for sale on here some time back. One was a Sedan and the other a Slant back. I believe the Sedan was a terrific shape and the Slant back needed some love. I think the sale was from someone in PA and the lucky buyer had everything they needed to get that Slant back in great shape. When I get that magazine I'll try an post some pics from it. I guess that's not frowned upon to post published pics from a magazine is it? Maybe a dumb question but that's not breaking some kind of law is it? American Rodder no longer in publication. I've been looking for a really nice '37 coupe and can't find an "untouched one" anywhere but have recently seen several very original Sedans and thought to myself..."If only you could make a Slant Back from a Sedan" and here we are. Thanks, Andy from STL
yes, that was me. i have been fortunate enough to get some really nice 37 chevies, and dumb enough to sell them all. sooner or later, i'll get another.
@mr.chevrolet Maybe I'll buy one off ya someday! I have a 38 coupe but actually prefer a 37 front end. I also have 5 kids so a coupe is pretty impractical for our family. I don't mind 4 doors either. I had visions of a 37-38 Sedan Delivery with the sides opened up as fixed windows, then three rows of seats for the kids like a suburban. I kinda scratched that idea when i looked at a 37 SD in the flesh and realized how small they were inside. A 37-38 carry-all would work better but those are pretty rare, as is the SD.
well, the next one i own will probably have to be bought at the estate sale. I too would like a 37 SD
I believe the slantback had its own taillight bracket. The Sedan Delivery one is only used on them according to the parts book.
I think we have a winner. your prize will be determined by the Naughty or Nice list compiled by Santa C
View attachment 5923048 You have a parts book? Does it happen to have a parts listing for the seat back hinges and the kick stand on the 37’ flat back. Have been searching high and far for them. Thought I had a line on them from a 38’ that had been hit in the rear, wrecker was going to sell the from clip off it, but the buyer ended up taking the whole car. View attachment 5923048
Hello all, I'm waking up an old thread here... Yesterday I bought a rare(?) 1937 Chevrolet... Right hand drive, 4 door, slant back sedan, Original dual side mounted spares, original luggage rack Photos attached. How rare is this car in this configuration ? Yes the grill is wrong and the car is waaay too high and tires too tall etc.. I will correct all that. I want to delete the dual side mounts.. I think they disturb the lines of the car. What are your thoughts ??
@ABFarmboy, sorry I did not see your post earlier. My book is a ‘29-51, published 4/51. I did not find the seat back parts, but I understand the Chevrolet parts books only showed available parts at the time of publication so earlier or unique parts may not have been listed.
That 37 4 door looks pretty good. I've never seen dual side mounts on those, but regular fenders should be easy enough to obtain, and clean up the look for you.
Put a wanted ad on HAMB, check eBay. There were some fiberglass reproduction companies, not sure what's around now. But, 1937 and 38 shared fenders, and fit all of the body styles.
I asked this question in your other thread but didn't see a reply. There don't appear to be any tail lights on your sedan? or am I missing something?
