You have to give the french some credit, they sure made some beatiful cars in the 30s.

Its uncanny how well the front wheel well opening perfectly matches the radius of the whitewall. Almost looks photoshopped.

    stunning..
if i can get my dad to email me some pics (unlikely, hes a computard)
Ill show you the precursor to that car, the 1936 Delage D6-70 lemans coupe, a one off custom in the french streamliner tradition.
My dad has just finished a seven year recreation of this car based on an original D6 chassis and engine, and photographs of the car taken before it disapeared in the fifties. its fucking incredible. Hand built alloy over ash frame body, the most beautiful shapes in it.
    ill email him now.
nice that you guys appreciate this stuff.

I have mixed emotions about these beautiful cars. On the one hand I'm grateful so many of them ended up in the US as proud owners tried to protect them from the Nazi's and ravages of war. On the other hand, I feel sorry for the families that were never able to reclaim them. The good news is, the way Americans have saved, preserved and restored these important cars has resulted in at least one thing France is grateful to the US for.

  21. Hey..., I got taillights for that thing in the classifieds...!!!

One pair of 1937 DeLage Taillights..., Be the only one one your block (or planet) to have a pair of Super Art deco taillights on your "Custom" or "Hotrod"...!!!
    [IMG][IMG]

Although mine are off a DeLage Roadster model...!!!

  22. That car is absolutely beautiful. The lines are great. Can anyone descibe what the suspension and engine are? Was it a fast car or just a luxury car?

Anyone have pictures of the Roadster version? Incredible creation, too bad they aren't still making them as fetching.

Brandy, these cars weren't made on an assembly line. If you wanted one, you would buy the chassis, and driveline from Delage, and then choose a coachbuilder, who designed, and built the body to YOUR specifications! I believe this one, though was built in the Delage cosch studio...for the boss, Louis Delage. Back in the 30's it would cost $15,000 to 30,000 to acquire on of these!
There were many french coach builders, and designers who were fantastic. Figoni and Falaschi, Marchand, Letourneue, Villeurs, Pourchant, Freney...

  27. What are you rambling on about?

Some of the streamlined cars were imported into the states before WW II when they were new or almost new cars by the likes of Tommy Lee who had 3 Talbot Lago's, but the majority were and still are in Europe its only in the last few years that all the US guys have been buying them up and over restoring them.

    OK, just one more.
Here's a D8-120 that was coachbuilt by Chapron. Much more conservative styling.
