Hey all, I am going to install the 1942-1948 "crab" distributor on my 1937 21 stud flathead. I have the 2 bolt front cover, distributor, wires and looms. Am i missing anything? Is their any special adapters in need for the install? Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
JAY You may need the distributor adapter "thingie". It's a small piece that goes in between the cam and the distributor. I can't remember what it's called. Perhaps someone here will know? Or, post this question on the Fordbarn. For sure, someone will know. Wish I could remember
No! Just remember the two bolt dizzy's are uni directional don't force it. If it won't go its probably because its 180 out.
Ok, thanks for all the help. I did see a 2 bolt adapter on van pelts website...supposedly for a 2 bolt distributor and 2 bolt front cover on a 1937 V8 with the 1932-193? Long nose cam. I think i might need it...I'm not 100% sure yet. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
When you have the two-bolt cover, basically all you need is a spacer. If you want to leave the three-bolt cover in place, you can run a two-to-three adapter which will also do the spacing at the same time. Either version of spacer or adapter is available from Speedway and probably a hundred other suppliers. Or, maybe you want to check and see if you have a 59A style cam in there now (most hot rod grinds were on the later cams, not the early style). If so, there is probably the small ****on with the groove and tang behind the distributor. If you have a later cam you can just install the two-bolt cover and distributor (leaving out the ****on this time) as if the whole thing was a 59 engine.
