I'm starting a new build for a customer with a 1937 Ford truck. I have spent the last couple of hours searching the net and this site for a dimension that I'm missing and I hope someone can help. I need to know the distance from the center of the front axle to the rear of the cab on this truck because the customer does not have the front sheetmetal yet. It would appear that the 1935 to 37 trucks will be the same but I don't have one to measure and it would also be helpful to know where, on the back of the cab, the measurement should start. Any help out there?
these are some frame prints they might help .My truck is to modified to help you .It looks like the front cab mount is 33" from the front of the frame horn.
Thanks for the reply! The first two holes in the flanges of the body are a little over 33 1/2 inches c to c wide. This would appear to be the second hole in the frame on Wescotts dwg which is 19 3/4 back from axle CL but all I have is the cab and its modified. ???
Depending on how much the cab has already been played with, you still hopefully have some original mounting holes in the cab through which the cab was attached to the frame; p***ing first through a wooden spacer that adapts the flat floor to the curving frame. Matching up the holes if you still have an original ch***is shouldn't be too tough of an ***ignment. If you are building an entirely new frame, I guess you can put it where you want it but you really need that sheet metal before you can really be sure. My avatar was built on a Fatman ch***is. I mounted the front sheetmetal first and then slid the cab forward until the hood side touched the body line of the cab. Then I fabbed all new mounting wood as the cab was now required to be relocated a number of inches to the rear. Thus the bed got moved, too, but the fenders had to stay where they were in relation to the wheels. Just a bunch of "opportunities!" There will be some more, too. That's what we all love about building these treasures... isn't it? Good luck, Al
Thanks for the replys! The customer has ordered a gl*** fender to mock-up while he tries to find the steel and ,while the body has some modification, the floor is still mostly there. I am building him a custom one-off ch***is so I,ve got to get it right. Back to the frame table!
