Hi, I have a 1937 Plymouth 4dr Sedan with the Crankout Windshield. I am looking to replace with just plain glass. I already have new glass in the existing frame, but would like to see if anyone has taken the glass out of the crankout frame and mounted directly in the body. I know the 1938 Plymouth didn't have the crankout windshield but don't know how it was mounted. Anyone have any ideas how to get this done. I installed new gaskets, with the crankout frame, but it leaks a lot when it rains. Thanks, Ken
Not really answering your question, but I'd re-double my efforts to get it to seal. The crank-out is a very cool feature IMO. Try getting the seal from Steel Rubber. $$, but highest quality. Glass would probably have to be cut slightly bigger, but I believe it could be urethaned in directly if you insist; no frame necessary.
I used Gorilla Glue and windshield sealer on mine, with the glass in the metal frame, no gasket, but after about a year, it started leaking, so I'm going to have to take it out and re-do it. There's not a real smooth surface where it fits into the body, so I think you have to keep the frame and the gasket. I'm thinking of drilling some holes in the frame, and installing some flat-head screws on the inside of the frame before putting in the glass, then put nuts on them and tighten them from the inside the car. I agree, might help to take a look at a '38.
If you decide to go with this how much do you want for your crank assemb. I have a 37 also and i need the crank setup mines missing. Send me a pm if your interested. Thanks
Anyone replaced their crank assembly? mine was not working when I bought my 37 Plymouth Sedan and have a working one now? Any help would be appreciated
