Not my style of build for a Willys either, but no reason to talk like a clown either.
My guess is that the car was built in the mid 50s when sports cars were a half-breed away from hot rods. The car probably wasnt worth shit then as Fords were still the car of choice for drag racing.
Not defending the car, just lets not ruin a thread talking like jr high kids.

Glad you're enjoying the pictures. It's amazing how many new/old photos there are popping up around the place.

Interesting short side-trim (sedan perhaps?) on the rear quarter.

Can any Willys experts out there tell me when side-trim was used on the coupes? I thought it was 40,41,42 only but am sure i've seen trim referenced as 37-40. Did any coupe models have side trim before 40?

  10. SIDE TRIM
The factory only had side trim in '40-'42. 40 side trim is round on the surface and not as wide as 41-42. The '41-42 side trim has a peak in the middle (matching the bumper peak in '41), '42 bumpers were different and only on'42's. It would not be too difficult to put trim on the 37-39 cars, but no cars came with it. There was some trim on the '37 hoods and headlight pods, but I have only seen one example in the flesh. Oh, I forgot that a few had trim along the bottom lip of the running boards. There were some odd balls out there such as the "Californian" model, but I've only seen pictures.
Australia, that's another story...they may have any number of different models with trim.

P.S. The pictured '40 coupe may have shortened the side trim past the door, as it should have been longer. Perhaps used a 4-door trim piece???

Correctamundo g-willys. 1940 Speedway (standard models) did not have the additional hood whiskers of the '40 De Luxe. The sill trim strip was also only on the De Luxe models and may have been optional from 1940 through 1942....

Weasel...pardon my age, and thanks for the correction...I knew that... but neglected to mention it, as the question only referred to side trim...memory going...
Just to regain my knowledge base status, the '40 standard also had the floor shift, just like the earlier cars, but the deluxe was the introduction of the column shift. My '40 stocker, back in 1960 was a deluxe, and the girl friend could sit closer without that floor shift interfering!

  14. Since this one was sort-of in my back yard ,well maybe down the street and over a state. Anyone know what happened to it. Or more info on the car. It would have been in the S&S teams back yard

Dave just turned me onto the "Disturber" photo of his car. Here is a current picture from our show last year. He's going to have the car at the reunion in York this Friday and Saturday. Dave's been a big help lately as I've been working on a history of S&S for the next TRJ.

Harley Estes Garage is now Suicide Ride.

  18. Thats some neat information. I noticed the rear now. I could have bought Daves car a couple of times. When it was at the carlisle swap meet and went for a second look at that owners house. It was in gray primer and only signs of being raced. With 2 kids trying to fix a house up and a coupe already in the garage could not justify the second one. If I remember right around $5000 could have bought it.That was over 20 years ago

Old 136 as Dave affectionatly calls her looks really good. I've even got to hear her run a couple of times. They are all very excited about TRJ deal.

I know VW Rabbit/Jetta hood latches on 41 Willys hoods have been used for awhile now. Wondering how these have been in the long run or anyone use any other make that is an easy modification like the VW? Thanks for any info.

  21. Bomber,
Have had a VW Bug hood latch on my '39 Coupe for 17 years. It has worked extremely well...the angle of the '39 nose was a bit difficult to get the correct angle of the latch, but when I got it set up right, it clicks right in. The VW Rabbit is the best one to use for the 40-41.
