Looks like there's a few Willys experts over here. Got a question! Prepping a 41 Street Beast Willys (yeah...groan!) for a friend. It has ONE single hardware store type hinge in the middle of the hood, to the top of the cowl. Not much in the way of adjustment, and it needs some! Same as the doors and trunk, but they were easier to modify and adjust. Is it possible to work with this hinge set up? Or is there an alternative hinge to install on the car, like a factory pair? I guess I'll have to make up a crossmember on hood too, for side hinges to bolt to, as well.

  5. Pictured below is a cowl section from a '1938 or later Willys...they all had the piano type hinges after the 1937 hinge on each side set up. The hinge on each side set up in '37 had a pocket for the hinge in the firewall, and often it held water and the hinge rusted...ended up not being able to easily open the hood. I took this piece out of a '38 cowl, in case I found a '37 , so as to convert to the type that the later hoods would mount to.. You are right...there was very little adjustment available with this set up...however I encountered fewer problems with hood alignment than other hinge set ups on a steel bodied Willys , (eg. door hinges, trunk hinges, etc) Not sure about glass cars. Almost anything is possible, but I would have to see what you are dealing with to make a judgement. There is a shock absorber set up out there that might work (try Willys Replacement Parts out of California (Mike Nordahl...owner.) g-willys IMG_20190321_100659014 (1).jpg

A 40 standard with all the right parts. Great looking Willys.

Really cool 40 std. also LB, I'll bet it was like all steel Willys a stocker, note the rear view mirror in the windshield.
