Big John liked his tow rig to look good as well as his race car.

Alright all you willys fans i need some help.
The truck was bought out of Ohio but originally came out of California. There is some sponsor info painted on both sides of the truck bed. The passengers side is very easy to make out. The drivers side is a bit faded out. We have been able to figure out most of what it says.

  18. A survivor...when you opened the door on these 60's gassers, they dropped almost 2 inches. Cutting the firewall way back left no support in the upper hinge for the weight of the door.

If you watch closely in the movie HOT ROD several times the actors had trouble closing the doors on the coupe because of the sag. Later in the film seems they get better at the lift and pull motion to close the doors.

This is purported to be a 1939 Willys Overland Californian - I only knew of the 1940 Willys Californian. Anyone got any more info?

That P/U came out of my backyard that went to Ohio - now in Wyoming? Man that thing gets around pretty good in pieces - bet it gets great gas mileage! I bought it from a guy in No. Calif. who really didn't know anything about the truck. I never did anything with it except sat in my backyard and kept the stray cats out of the rain... maybe a rat or two as well...:D Looks like it had a V8 or something at one time.

Weasel, I have never seen one of these 39's before. Where did you find that picture? I love all that chrome, never seen that hood and headlight trim before, the 40 Californian just added more standard trim except for the dash plate, but this 39 has trim unique to this car only, I love it!

  26. For a somewhat conservative company like Willys, that is a lot of glitter! It is tastefully done however, and does look like it belongs. I have a grille guard exactly like that, and it was on a '39 coupe I found several years back, but I too have never seen one of these...g-willys
