Thanks for the free plug Dave - I am reducing my Willys collection and have three Willys listed on that auction site right now - here's some shameless self promotion....;)

  9. I know this one hasnt been posted yet. This is one of the few picture my dad took at Oswego drag raceway that didnt get ruined in a flood. The article was posted a while back by a friend of the original owner looking for information. This looked like one bad ass willys that I would love to have.

I think this was in Columbus , Oh around 1987 at the Streetrod Nationals. I remember it wasn't really for sale. They were advertising for something else. Never saw it again.

I love this pic! The car has so much personality because of the headlights "It looks like it is saying " Thats right motherfuckers I'm fast" lolololololol

  24. That's Wayne Artega (with the hat on), and his '39 before he put the '41 nose on it. It was quick!!! For all you long time Willys guys, notice it was just "Overland" on this hood...don't know if it was later or earlier that the hoods added Willys to the script, to say Willys Overland. My theory...The old name Overland had not been around for 10 + years, and the company wanted to be identified with the Willys trademark...thus
Willys Overland. I have hood script both ways...just my theory...anyone else???

You are correct Bill, that's Wayne in the hat and the Helmuth brothers....Bob (I think) kneeling in front of him and John leaning on the driver side roof.....eventually Wayne's partner.

The car was originally purchased as a complete driver off a used car lot in north St. Louis, by Wayne. Didn't take long for it to start undergoing the transformation to racer. As early as this picture is, this is probably at the time it was Olds (394+) powered. After literally knocking the crank/rods/pistons out of the bottom of the block, breaking the main bearing journals out of the block, and through the pan, the change was made to the hemi.

The rest, as they say, is history.......
