<!--StartFragment -->Great Memories! I was a personal friend of Ray Kobel I met in Cali in 1963 when he came out for NY to find a Willys coupe. My brother fond THAT 1940 Willys coupe in N Hollywood, Ray bought it for $150 from a little old lady and we drove it home. Ray later flat towed it back to NY and hand built in a single car garage his famous yellow Willys wheel standing gasser. I was driving the tow car behind Ray at Cecil Cnty. Raceway May 23 & 23rd 1965 when he did that famous wheel stand, sparks flew!

Also, I painted Eddie Sanzos 1941 Willys PU truck, then later June 13, 1965 on the starting line when he and SWC car raced West vs East and Sanzo did a hole shot on SWC and got sidewise into the dirt and fliped the car end over end, distroyed it. The next day we took the engine and tranny out and he found an old 1933 Willys coupe, need allot of work. However, we put it together I painted it Reo Red and 5-weeks later towed it to the 1966 Indy Nationals and he came in the finals and lost to Ohio George. Fun times

The second Anglia back with Jack Merkel Racing was buit by and driven by a good friend of mine from New York, Frank Cali. I painted this car red for him just befroe this photo (1964 to 1966). Funny asked me "do you think there will be any other red Anglias there?" I said, naaaaah!

That's a shame... I'd love to be cruising around in a stock car.

Thanks for all the Willys pictures from Back to the 50's. Next time come over and introduce yourself. Mine is the White '39, so thankyou for posting it, but most of those pictures are friend's cars from the area. I have a picnic every year on the Thursday before the 50's, and most of the cars you pictured were there. Thanks again

    Willys41,
Not sure if Big Al's Toy Box built the motor, but it is a 392. I also know the guy bought the car a couple years ago.

  30. Willys 41,
Good thing StuWillys had the info, because I didn't see the car up close...busy weekend...I've got a daughter ready to deliver, and we were keeping track all weekend.
Neat car, even from a distance. Also the 39 sedan (only one picture) was terrific...it's a Canadian car from Winnipeg, and one of the few that Abe Suderman let go. Has an under the hood super charged small block. Only one 33-36 that I saw all weekend.
