  7. Yeah,but I don't want a new one. I'd rather find a nice old one.

Anybody running around without their side panels off in this hot weather? How about grabbing a snap like the angle shown below that shows all the bits to make the hood latch. I'm not sure that I don't have a small problem here... I may have a '39 hood. The grill and hood latch are defiantly '38.

  15. Here's another update....

Took the 3" drop axle off the front, drives SO much better now!

My side boards are now on,cleared, and ready for lettering...

  16. Hey Unkamort, send me a PM with a good return email address and I'll send you a couple of close ups of the latch system. I can send you better pix with higher resolution than trying to post them here. That way you can zoom in for some detail. And Bad Bob all I've found is the base for the '38 hood latch. No idea where the rest of the assembly has vanished to.

PM sent... It would be great to see a complete assembly! Thanks to another 38er on here I think I have all the bits, but they don't seem to just 'fall together' for me.

  19. unkamort, never got within 50 miles of you. Good luck finding the missing pieces. I see them on eBay from time to time. I'm not sure if the underside assembly is specific to the '38-'39 trucks or not. I suspect they may have been used on other models as well.

Hey unkamort, is that the pieces I sent you that your talking about? It was definitely a complete assembly. I can send you pictures again if you need it. I think that was like 3yrs ago. They were definitely 38 and all the pieces where there.

In. I'll have to grab some pics. Right now it's just a doorless cab sitting on an elevated dolly so I can repair all of the floor rot. Anybody got a set of the aprons that bolt the grill to the fenders they want to get rid of? Don't need show quality, this is going to be a winter driver.

Yes! I think I have all those pieces... for the latch. Thank you very much sir! I saved all the pix but haven't gotten back into it in a while
But I seem to be missing parts to the 'catch'. I can see that there is a sort of flat tension spring that rides on the lock plate (to keep it closed?) that I'm missing. And what ever the lock plate rotates into is still a mystery to me.
As a side note... I'm working on removing the 'eye brows' from my side panels... filling that area in with metal shaped around lakes style headers. So the hood install is working its way up the list.

Spose I'm in (well on the way )
Cab widened 10" at the cowl & 14" at the back (no chop!)
    Front doors lengthened 6"
Added rear doors with square tops, turned into a dual cab
Running "full sized" Truck fenders front & rear
    Style side pickup bed

Another question for the collective mind... Original trucks came with a cardboard head liner. On the interior roof there is a stamped metal channel to support the head liner. Question...should there be a wood 'tack strip' between the metal channel and head liner?
