    "Race only" Yeah...
    I can almost smell it.

And I thought I heard the faraway shriek of a big bore short-stroke small block...

That engine combination brings back great memories ... used to see them at 10,000+ leaving the starting line ... what a hoot.

Very cool , ends up similar to the base of my Victor Ram.
Improved my 60 ft time after texturing the floor of my Ram with a needle scale gun to help in keeping the fuel from puddling, are you planning to run a single 4?

  13. Basically the same
Top hat" type chassis in my 36 coupe. It was a gasser in the 60s and other than adding front disc brakes it's exactly as it was built by the prior owner. It's got the original drop axle with blocks to raise the front up and it's staying that way because I'm retaining as much of the original vibe as possible without sacrificing safety. The motor mounts were also built in the 60s and are welded to the top of the frame as well as having braces welded to the bottom & sides. It's not going anywhere. 57 Olds rear and home built square tube traction bars are also original to the 60s builder. Call me crazy but I'm even going to keep the stock steering box unless it gives me trouble and then I'll go with a period correct substitute. Pic for inspiration.

When I built the motor mounts for my '39 Chev gasser I made the mounts start at the bottom of the hat channel frame and extend to the top. Then I used flat bar across the top extended out over the vertical plates to box them in and give plenty of support so they wouldn't tear out of the sides of the frame. Those frames are nice, but also fairly thing metal, so a vertical edge welded to the frame could easily tear itself out of the metal over time if not done right.

  17. In regards to the thin top hat frames, the home made mounts in my 38 had ripped the top of the frame at the weld. The weld is indeed strong, the frame, not so much. See first pic

I cut those out and went with Chassis Engineering bolt in units, that encapsulate 3 of the 4 sides of the frame rail, providing reinforcement to the top and sides of the frame.

That’s the answer to engine mounts . I also but tubes through the frame , welded so tightening would not crush the top hat of the frame
