Im in the midst of building a 1938 ford 1/2 ton. I have the hotrod frame, mustang 2 front end and 8" ford read with four-link installed already. The cab and front fenders are off a 2 ton ch***is, can someone help me in identifying the differences between the front fenders? I have looked and talk to a couple people and was told there is a slight difference, but cant find the proper information to nail down the details. Weather it is the width and/or wheel openings. I have the ability to fix the sheet metal to "retro fit" if applicable but need some dimensions and pictures to back it up before i start. Please help!!!

It sounds like your truck is a streetrod. This forum is for traditional hotrods

I was pretty sure to begin with that the wheel openings were bigger but it also looks like they could be wider and it even looks like they may come down further on the big trucks making them taller as well???
Says this one is a 1 1/2 ton. look how far the fender comes down compared to the bottom of the grille on a pickup....not sure about that part but this will give you a bump anyway.

  4. The big truck fenders are wider and taller. The filler panels between the fender and grille are also different. If you compare the above pictures of the '38 pickup and the '38 1 1/2 ton, you can see the differences. On a pickup, the bottoms of the doors barely clear the running boards when you open the door. On the big truck, there is probably 5 or 6 inches clearance between the bottom of the door and the running board, and the fender has to come down enough to meet the running board. The fender is wider than a pickup fender, so the running boards are wider to correspond with the fender. The wheel opening is bigger. The big truck fenders come down further in front. The filler panels for a pickup taper down to almost nothing where they meet under the grille, no more that about 3/4" tall at that point, just barely room to get a wrench on the bolt that holds the two halves together. The big truck filler panels are much taller where they meet under the grille, probably 3 or 4 inches tall at that point. The grille, hood, and hood side panels are the same.

I gathered that the filler panels were different just by looking. Just on the fence to weather it is better to try and modify the fenders or search for a new set 1/2 specific. I don't want fibre gl***, but can't seem to find a set or good reproductions anywhere.
