1938 Sprint Car Ford Flathead 59 A-B Engine with Offenhauser manifold and dual Strombergs. 3 Speed transmission PeeWee Erlbacher steering box Ford Model A running gear Chrysler(?) front axle Firestone Speedway tires in front, dirt knobbies in back 97" wheelbase, 60" track Barn find car. Engine turns but not currently running. Carbs clean. Fuel tank missing. Wiring needs connecting. Grille unattached. Rolls and steers, clutch disengages, transmission shifts, brakes work. Here's what we were told from the owner: Car that was run pre-war on Midwest dirt tracks by seller's father. Then run by his son's through the Fifties. Updated throughout the years as is typical with race cars. Ch***is by Clyde Adams of Harry Miller fame. Original body work was raided by a s**** collector many years ago. Son is now in a nursing home, we acquired the car from long term garage storage. There were more recent half-*** attempts to get the car running again for vintage events. I have no reason to doubt the seller's story; no angles being played i.e. no grandiose claims about big provenance or rarity/value/etc. Clearly this is a real car that you can judge empirically. No more history available than what I have just relayed to you. No period pictures, etc. Obviously no ***le as it was a race car. Non-original aluminum cowl piece now in place. Modern incorrect seat shell. Newer exhaust. Ugly 30's gas welds on ch***is, but nice geometry and details. Tubes and tabs have been added throughout the years, so please don't bother about this or that being incorrect. There is no reason to think this is anything but the real deal, and the price is not suggesting anything more than what it is. Happy to provide many more photos so you can make up your own mind. I'm sure there is someone on this board that can tell me more about this car. Hopefully it gets to a knowledgeable new owner. email direct : bestbarnfinder (at) yahoo (dot) com leave your phone number and I will call back promptly
