Hello, I'm new to this. I am just curious. I am planning on buying a 39 dodge d11 suicide door car. It is dis***embled but supposedly all there. I was wondering if anyone has ever built one of these and has any pointers for me or anything to look out for. I appreciate any and all help. Thank you!!
Lots of good stuff on here covering 39/40 Mopars. Do a search on the front suspensions - they are a good place to start and need some shock absorber mount mods and they then perform very well. Disc brakes can be added easily and there is a rack and pinion change to update the steering. Engine choice is wide open and again a check with the search ****on here will bring up several options from guys who have done the change here - a lot are MOPAR engines ranging from s/b 318's through to blown hemi's. Diff choice is over to your ideas and mopar 8 3/4 diffs go in relatively easily with only a relocation of the spring pads required. Its a case of getting out with a tape measure and going for it. Dodge shared the same body shell as a Chrysler and Desoto in 1939 and there is a company in the USA that makes patch repair panels.
Quite a few old Mopar owners post here. I don't know if any of them have written a book on how to restore a 1939 Dodge 4 door sedan but if you look around you will find some info for sure.
Someone did write a book, but he p***ed recently. http://www.amazon.com/Build-Chrysler-Plymouth-Dodge-Rods/dp/087938459X
