I have a 1939 Dodge business coupe. It has a small block Chevy motor. We have been unable to successfully find a set of headers that will fit. We have tried the Fat Fenders, a set of Doug's for tri-fives, and ******s for an early Nova. Does anyone have a suggestion or a tip for something that may work? Thanks.
So you are using the original steering column & box? Or will you be changing that? My '38 came with an SBC with Chevy Rams horns and it (barely) fit. The engine is offset to the p***enger side, right?
I tried everything on my '37 Plymouth, including block huggers. Nothing fit except a pair of original cast iron rams horns. You can get them in 2-1/2" size Corvette type for about $120 a pair. Also check out the TruRams, I think they are in the Speedway catalog, available in stainless, polished also. That is what I plan on using when I'm ready to upgrade.
Amen! My son has a '24 Dodge Bros. Coupe, it was bought from a second owner that stored it for 50 years. He has a 350 SBC that I was afraid he might use, but sanity prevailed, and he picked up a nice 318 with a 727 Torqueflite. Engine is now back together, and sits in there just beautifully. He used the block-hugger headers, but may have more room than the '36-'40 types, they are narrow in the engine room. If there is the slightest consideration, I urge use of these excellent Mopar smallblocks. (especially in Mopars) The 360 is the same size as 318, and will come alive with simple modifications.
How about getting a set made or making as set? There are a lot of people looking for work and you wont have to compromise on fitment
