Got a 1939 ford standard Tudor, getting it back this month from a engine rebuild a full body repaint, it currently has a 350sbc, gonna install a new wirring harness when I get it back then do a full suspension swap, after that I want to put a ford engine in it. currently looking at the 7.3 Godzilla engine as a potential swap, since the coyote engine would require alot of modification and the 7.3 is only 1" taller, wider, and longer then the 350sbc, wanted to ask for any recommendations on this idea if its good or bad, wouldnt do this for another 2-3 years but doing research now. Also since I'm doing suspension this year any recommendations? I'm looking at QA1 kits but not sure if any would fit even with modification
moved to the off topic forum. The main board focuses on 1965 ond older cars built in the style popular in 1965 and before. thus modern fuel injected engines and IFS swaps are strictly off topic. you can find the rules for the site here: https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/the-h-a-m-b-rules-guidelines.44274/
I suspect the Chevy motor was probably installed with one of several "motor install kit" that was available back in the 50s, 60s & 70s. Is the current motor being rebuilt? I would have considered replacing the Chevy motor with something else long before having it rebuilt. If you are considering a different motor, you may want to hold off until you have the motor you want to keep, the odds of the wiring harness being the same between the Ford motor and the Chevy motor are not very good. If your doing a full suspension swap, everything you have now may be entirely different. If the motor swap is going to happen, swap in a suspension system that will work better with the desired motor, then buy the wiring harness the motor requires. Other wise, you may be doing everything twice. I don't know anything about a Godzilla 7.3, but don't forget the transmissions are probably different, and the exhaust requirements may cause a clearance problem. The radiator may, or may not work with the different motor. Also probably going to be a different drive shaft involved. There is a lot more involved then the difference in the size of the motor itself. You may want to check on some Ford web sites to see if anyone has installed a Godzilla 7.3 into a 39 Ford. Someone's hand on experience can prevent a lot of missteps.
I think you would be better off if you bought a complete frame setup for a Ford engine. These professional builders would know what Ford engine would fit the 39 body and have the motor -transmission mount installed and ready to go. https://www.heidts.com/kits/
Unless you're go'in rac'in I would vote for an FE engine. Ford-in-a-Ford makes me smile And a big old romp'in-stomp'in cammed-up and noisey side-oiler is VERY arousing to me and other FoMoCo guyz..... 6sally6
