Hello, I'm putting a 1939 motor in the frame and she's mounted and need some help on the lower waterpump hoses. I have a 1 1/2 offset at the rad and waterpumps. Is there a hoses that anyones knows off hand.. Also the fan mounts on the crank, how can I change it and do I have to go to a generator fan set-up. If you have any shots of a set-up that would be cool. I'm trying to get this project ready for the pile-up thanks continental
I seen a pretty neat idea the other day on this very setup. A small box was fabricated about only as thick as needed for spacing between the radiator outlet and waterpump inlet. These boxes were braised onto the lower outlets of the radiator and had a offset to allow a straight shot with a regular hose into the waterpump intake. The box was just large enough to serve the purpose and well fabbed. Looked pretty good in there.
When I put a 37 engine in my Model A frame with a Walker radiator, the outlets on the radiator were offset slightly. I had a lower hose from a 68 V8 falcon in my junk pile. I cut off the straight section and it had enough flexability in it to allow for the offset. Then I went to the parts store and bought a new 68 Falcon lower hose and bingo I had my problem solved. The fan problem can be solved by using a 39 "standard"generator with the pulley drilled for the fan. If using an alternator, someone makes an alternator pully drilled for a fan. Not sure who makes it, but I'm sure someone here knows.
An outfit called "we're only '32" or somesuch makes the offset boxes out of cast aluminum. They also make lots of other cool fittings for attaching things to '32's. They even repro the stock '32 motor mount legs, which adapt any flathead to the original motor mount pads. Before spending serious money, have a look at 1940 type lower hoses--they are dropped, and MIGHT fit in there with some shortening.
