Hello, i am building a 39 rat rod. I came across this pickup bed and Bought it. On closer look this bed is longer than normal. There is a very old sticker on the tailgate it says at the top 1939 then US Army Electronic Proving Ground Fort Huachuca Arizona. the length is 8 feet inside, width is 4'6" inside. the floor is wood 1 and 1/8" thick the sides and front of the bed are covered in wood also 5/8" thick. the p***enger side front of the bed has a spare tire holder the nuts are 1 and 1/8" the front of the p***enger fender has a small indent for the tire to rest. the drivers front bed has a very weird looking apparatus. Is this bed normal? I did not want to cut it up for my rat rod if it was a rare bed. i have attached pictures.
Ring-a-ding-ding! Read this: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/the-h-a-m-b-rules-guidelines.44274/ Size is normal.
Where are you located? Do you have the fenders for it? I have a 1 ton and could use a better bed. At the very least I need the fenders.
Scotts52... The fenders for this bed are in really bad shape. I mentioned rat rod yes but i am going to try and reverse engineer it into a 39 truck. So it seems that these beds are common with very thick wood bed and lined with wood on the sides. P***enger sidehas spare tire carier now the p***enger side has that funny looking contraption i thought it may be somthing to step on but it dosent look like its heavy enough. I live in tucson Az. I do agree that it has to be 3/4 Or 1 ton because of the thickness of the wood
Id sell it to the guys over at fordtruckenthusiasts.com and look for a smaller bed..or meke your own. Its a rat rod so put a bbq grill in the back think fresh!
Definitely too good for a rat rod. Sell it and buy and old deep freeze to run as a box. Then it will keep your beer cold when youre broke down on the side of the road because an airbag went flat
You have a bed for a 122" wheelbase express pickup (1 ton only in '38 and 3/4 and 1 ton versions in '39-'41. '38'-'41 1/2 ton 112" wheelbase bed is 46" inside width an 78" length.
oh great....a chance to post my frame.....maybe a 1939 3/4 ton .....- which I want to build a pickup on with the long bed and 40/41 front clip.....
