I am trying to complete a ‘39 pickup project that was started years ago by a former racer who has now passed. His goal was to have a flathead powered pickup that he could run with modern traffic and would stop. Outward appearance, he had accomplished his goal but he used lots of parts that I’m not familiar with as I am somewhat of an originalist. It has an 8” Ford rear end and a rear transmission mount with provisions for an open driveshaft. That’s where my problem exists. The attachment point for the speedometer cable faces straight up on the transmission mount which creates interference with the floor board. Is there an adapter which would allow the cable to attach 90 degrees from its current position? Any suggestions greatly appreciated. This pickup has the best sheet metal I’ve ever seen on something unrestored. It has a completely new wiring harness but has some type of front end with disc brakes and a dual master cylinder. I’m actually looking forward to finishing it to see how it performs on the road. I cranked the motor two weeks ago and it is strong. I don’t know what can it has in it, but it surely has a sweet sound.
Yes there are 90* adaptors, I had to use one on my 32 when I had a 3 speed top loader trans in it. I have a 5 speed now and don’t need the adaptor, it’s for sale
