1939 ford toploader question

my 3 speed toploader transmission in my 39 ford truck had a heart attack... the case numbe is 48-7006-d.... can someone let me know what others trans will bolt right in. like a #78 trans? also i would like to purchase a good used or rebuilt trans.. anyone got one? thanks scott

 

Any v8 trans will bolt in, '32 right up to '48. That said, the '32 is straight cut gears, not a good choice. The '39 is the best of the toploaders, it has the same innards as the side shift models. If you find a side shifter, you can put all the works in your '39 case.
