I know, at my age, I should know, but this my first old Mercury.. I know the frame is totally different.. Ch***is enginerring has a different front sway bar kit, so got me wondering..? maybe because the actual frame is different, ah maybe I am onto something here..?
The front wishbone, axle, spindles, brakes are same as ford. The rearend is the same just a longer torque tube. I have put a merc front axle ***embly under a ford and just bolted in.
Early Mercury cars had a very long pinion shaft for the rear axle. There was no separate drive shaft. They can be converted though if the rear gears wear out.
Your wishbone on the 39 Mercury is 4 inches longer than the Ford. The front end, fenders and hood are 4 inches longer than the Ford models.
The front end parts (I-beam, spindles, brakes etc) is the same. The rear end has this unusual drive shaft/pinion shaft all in one. A whole lot longer, as well. The body parts differ all over the car. Not a single piece is the same. They are also longer both up front and back. Wheel base 4" longer, but I have no measurements on the body. I think at least 8" longer or more, than the Ford. I am talking coupe here. No idea of the 4-door/2-door.
