Was given the cluster, bought the dashboard, then given the cluster face... some nice photo-shopping by stogy... pic... got the marker, saws and sander out... fit the panel... left the 90* edges on the face panel were i could as it adds a bunch of rigidity.... tacked, checked, welded... will grind and sand it later... layed a tan '29 dashrail against it... i like the look but it's too short and none of the mounting holes line up... back to a '30-'31...
grinding/sanding tip, double duct tape the upper and lower surfaces before you grab the tools... i just did...
Inner trimming done, the dash has a slight left to right arch... the '39 merc cluster face panel is flat... little hammer tapping, hand bending, still not perfect, note the shadows around the odometer/tripometer, still mikie likes it...
buddy gets these diode thingies that lets him run 12v through 6v gauges... '46 pontiac... but i am scared, so i put 12v to the fuel, oil and temp on a momentary switch... amp doesn't move enough to use anyway... voltmeter is the king... the 3 work fine, hit the button, they tell me what's happening and then go back to sleep... did this in a '47 tudor for 2 years, still working when i sold it... i use the momentary switch, cause if you forget they are ON the gauges will "peg out" and die...
