Hello Hambers, I would like to stick a set of 39 pedal in the stock K member. Any body have a picture of the set up, and plates that need to be made for the fit if any? I also have a 41 but as you know the clutch arm would be on the other side. Any ideas would be great... I didn't want to chop out the whole brace, or do I?? thanks continental
I tried it once with no success. I tried fabbing a new leg to use the 39 unit. I didn't like it. Too big and too bulky for my taste. It looked cobby to me. But I'm picky.
Hi John! Do you have Mike Bishop's book? It shows this mod complete with Xerox-able templates. Regards, Dave.
Hey Dave , I do have the book but it's a modified K-member in the book. It was shortened and cut up pretty good too. I didn't want to do much damage to the k-member. They are getting hard to find un-cut. But thanks for the info, it's a great book...
It really doesn't fit--mount angle and bulk are all wrong. It was a favorite of early rodders who weren't a bit afraid to blow huge holes in every obstacle with a torch, and that's the only way it will fit. For less than you can get for the '39 pedals (they are really pricey now) you can get a clever adaptor from the V8 garage that adapts your stock '32 pedals and crossmember to rear-mount hydraulic cylinder wit NO drilling or cutting. "we're only '32" also has two conversions, one front mount, one rear mount master cylinder. I've seen fifties coversions with the cylinder pointing forward on right side of trans, actuated by stock mechanical brake crossover.
Some long lost hot rodder did this years ago as Bruce descibed. Louie, that's the header pipe for the cutouts.
John this is what I made for a guy I was building a car for using stock 32 pedals and keeps the master cyl. above the scrub line...Danny
Danny - That setup looks pretty slick. Does that bolt to the back of the K-member and use stock 32 pedals? Thanks, Neal
Ya Neal it does. I didnt want to butcher anything up. I had an old timer by the shop one day and he saw it and told me I need to make a bunch and sell them cuz it keeps the cyl. up in the frame. He wants one for his 32. I plan on making an adapter to a dual res cyl. soon....Danny
Hey thanks Tommy and Dondanno for the great pictures of the pedal set-ups. I would like to use a 32 set-up but didn't have one, bid on a set but got sniped at the end. So all I had was a 1939 and 41 set-up Oh boy are you right Bruce about nothing lineing up, not a darn thing. I can't tell you how many times I have hear, " it's a direct bolt on" I made a bracket kinda like Tommys for my other rod, but the set -up with the grease fitting and all are sweet. Nice job Danny, and prints or sctches you could share? thanks continental
I will see what I can do. I just set everything up off the cuff to where it looks right and doesnt bind up...
Vague idea: The '32 bracket is a simple box with a slanted end. Remve '41 pedals from their bracket, mock uo a '32 pedal box, and drill for '41 or other available shaft and pedals. New shafts/bushings are available, and likely you can use thw '41-48 cluthc setup by using its cross shaft and release bearing shaft. The mockup could be done using plywood or whatever if you're not a metalsmith. See if some available pedals can be mounted in a faux-deuce manner and made to work with a simple master cylinder mount ala AV8. If you can come up with workable geometry this way, then cut out the necessary 4 metal plates for the '32 style bracket using hacksaw/grinder/file tech and getem welded.
